Sash weight question

After reading S Sanfords post re anchors I was wondering what sash weights are made of. I've used the same anchors for over 40years and they are not a pile of rust. Some of them look like they have a lot of gravel in them, sort of like concrete.
Hard to find them now. Could use a few more ,had to make a few mushrooms out of an old stainless steel puppy food bowl.

usually they are made of cast iron, possibly, sand cast. You used to be able to scrounge them from renovation sites. I got a bunch when they tore out all of the wood windows in the school where i was teaching.

Get a hold of a contractor that replaces windows and work out a deal with them, most of your older homes have them if there windows have not been updated.

They are cast iron, and only get a surface rust "patina" that doesn't bleed off on everything. anything from about 3# to around 9# the number on the top strap is the size. Used to be you could get them for free as the CI price was almost nothing, now, they are getting scarce. Old houses with original windows will have them, like was said, a window replacement guy will have them, but you probably need to pay for them.
