The Devlin Poleboat (sneakboat with oars) performed great in Saskatchewan the ONE day we were actually able to use it. A foot of snow dropped the day after we arrived which made the roads impassable with a small boat trailer the first two days and when it melted, the fields too muddy to traverse without getting stuck. The one day we did hunt out of her was a bit anticlimactic as it takes longer to launch, without a landing, than it does to actually shoot a limit of eight ducks. So yeah before we knew it we were loading the boat back on its trailer. Incidentally, inflatable beach rollers are indispensable for loading. The remainder of the trip was spent jump shooting ponds and cleaning ducks. Our dog Berta had a great time and before we knew it we were headed back home one day early with a limit of ducks. Thanks for the compliments guys. I forgot to mention that during our sub hour long hunt I kept seeing a black pickup driving up and down the adjacent road very slowly. So it didn't come as a total surprise when a Saskatchewan Game Warden pulled into the field as we were loading the boat. After checking our license and birds the conversation turned to our little duck boat. Apparently boats are so seldom used that it garnered the unwanted attention from the individual in the black pickup. RM

Great photos - congratulations on a fine expedition! I am a bit confused, though.... Having been to Saskatchewan only in the Spring, I was surprised to see all the white sand on the dunes - amidst the beach grass. I never realized that the Prairie Provinces had a barrier island right next to the 'lantic Ocean....

I'm guessing mostly puddlers? Any divers on the big sloughs?

All the best,

SJS

This years Saskatchewan trip was way different compared to the other two years I have gone. The first difference was that there were much fewer mallards than in past years, particularly drakes. My other two trips saw potholes filled with two dozen or more green heads. This year the same potholes contained alot of bluebill and goldeneye. The other hunters staying at the motel thought that the weather pushed them out but that didn't make sense because 1/3 of our take were green wing teal. It was a fun trip in spite of the weather and muddy conditions. Since Heather and I primarily hunt upland game, jump shooting ponds seemed like the thing to do. RM

@RM Anderson did you have any problems getting your dog across the border. Problems are supposed to be on the US said.
There’s a few new regulations that have come through and if the T’s aren’t dotted and I’s crossed they can quarantine the dog for 6 months.

Rules are difficult to sift through even for us veterinarians

No, we did not have any problems getting our dog across either border. Having said that, we were prepared for any audit of her vaccination records and made sure with her veterinarian that they were up to date before we left. Please elaborate on some of these new rule changes. Perhaps we were lucky. RM
