Scaup - the next duckboat in my care....11/25/2019 update

Progress has been steady, albeit a little slower than hoped. A work trip to Nashville and some decoy commitments, and life took some priority.

After much thought and debate, all the deck hardware is now installed. Brian Garman has started his wizardry with stencils and rattle cans....

What is not seen is the 5 under deck LED lights are installed, sockets for the bow and stern navigation lights are installed, and each circuit is tested.

The switch box is assembled, it's location defined and the mounts installed. Once the bilge pump arrives later this week, the final wiring will be completed. I am still debating what to use for electrical power. I have a good/heavy/large deep cycle battery that I put a charge on. This is the battery I got from Larry Eckart with the canoe and trolling motor a couple years ago. The canoe was a house warming gift for my daughter and SIL when they bought a new home in a lake community. I kept the trolling motor, battery, and "hunting" bits in case they decide to upgrade in the future, I will have a sweet little rig perhaps.

Since the lights are all LED, and the bilge pump is "just for convenience", I am thinking of a smaller battery? I use the small 12V 12aH sealed battery in my BBSB, but don't know that it would run the bilge pump? Is there a small deep cycle battery?

Registration numbers are on hand, ready to install when the painting is done. Then it will be grassing time! I have several bags of "stuff" that I have used on other boats/blinds over the years that I will start with, along with some various material goods and some ornamental grass I have from this season to add.

Hoping next update will be about done, and then on the water. Working out an anchor plan that can be easily run from the cockpit will be on the agenda, but I know what works on my BBSB with the same challenge, so I expect the same will work here too.

Good morning, Dave~

Fine work all around - as always. I look forward to Field Reports in person soon.

All the best,

SJS

Did not get a final grassing photo, was trying to get her tucked in while I had daylight. I decided to move the BBSB back into the new shelter I had built for the Scaup, because it likely will get less use, and it has a critter-proof cockpit. It is also smaller and therefore better tucks into the the shelter. I will add a front tarp and keep the weather off completely, while allowing it to breathe.

So, the Scaup got the forward position, and almost fits!

Her tongue is about 4" too long, the sponsons are touching the back. A swing away tongue bracket would do the trick, but I think it is close enough. Wheel stops screwed to the floor at the right spots and she should rest in the same spot each time without guessing. Unfortunately, she will be resting until Mid-December now. We are in our middle split, which ends Dec 1st, but I have limited time to hunt this week, and will head north on December 1st for my annual Lake Champlain hunt.

Here are a couple pics of the odds and ends I got done recently:
