Went out during the afternoon on Friday to put out some blind markers. Scouted while! I was doing this task. I was very surprised that I saw a bunch of small flocks of black ducks, After riding around of a while , I started seeing some teal, woodies, but only a very few mallard. I was thinking maybe it was because it was early afternoon . They could of been in the fields feeding. I hope so, I would hate to think that the government got something right. Geese were moving all day. My friend had a great day they got 23 in a corn field. I was very happy with what I saw for this time of year. The Hudson looked alive and there was food in the bays. So only God and time will tell. We have a few weeks until opening day. I think it could be a good year on big water with little rain here in New York State.View attachment Video.mov Little video we made a few years back the misses and I . Interesting observations. I, too, have seen almost no Mallards. The next week or so should be telling. Not sure how more rain would affect you on the Hudson - but we desperately needs LOTS of rain for our small potholes and such.


BTW: I could not view your video (and I have not learned how to post them...)

Interesting. That's ALL I've seen down here in CT. A few blacks and woodies, but almost everything else was a mallard. We had a hatch of some small insect a few weeks ago on the rivers and the mallards were there in the hundreds gobbling them up. I felt like Moses parting the Red Sea with my kayak as the family did a early goose scouting paddle. Perhaps the drought is driving them to the main channels early. It is wild, the northern part of the CT River is so low you can almost walk across a good portion of it. Half of it appears as a sandbar now.
