sealing waders

While out grassing my sneakbox lastweek I noticed that my waders from last year have a small rip in the crotch along the seem. What is the best way to seal up neoprene. I have heard aqua seal is the the best.

I had the same issue. Although mine leak at the inside of both knees and crotch. Otherwise they look like they in good shape. I have some Aquaseal to use. I am waiting for them to dry. I will be using some sort of patch over the Aquaseal in an attempt to better seal it.

I've always used "SHOE GOO" which is made to repair tennis shoes but works great for repairing your waders. The "SHOE GOO" is a Silicone product so it adheres very good. I just make sure that it gets inside the penetration and smeared around both sides too. I just bought new waders but my last pair of neoprenes lasted about 7 years!!! And I abuse my waders every weekend!

Aqua Seal is good but the reality is in the crotch its time for a new pair of waders they will leak shortly since that is the area that gets all the abuse

Wish there was an easy answer. I have three pairs of waders and everyone has some kind of leak problem.

Have used Aquaseal, but it seems to be a short term solution. Especially in the crotch, where most of my leaks come from, it really is the beginning of the end. Other places in the waders and aquaseal works great.

No I just bought the cabelas ones this year they haven't been in the water yet. I did buy these last Oct. Though I called The company (pro line) and I should have a new pair before my season starts. They had a one year warranty and I just made it under the wire.

I've tried Silicone, Shoe Goo, rubber cement...they all fail, a friend of mine claims 3M 5200 works great, might try that next.

Aqua seal is good on the rubber but I dont know how it will reacted with the neoprene, you can get some glue for neoprene that they use in making wet suits, I think I would get some neoprene and do a test first with the Aqua seal and if that go,s ok then I woud glue it first with the neoprene glue then go over it with Aqa seal to make sure it is good and waterproofed.

Take care and God Bless

Waders, the money pit.
I don't use neoprene anymore, I switched to the breathable waders a couple years back. Neoprene is heavy and the breathable are not. With the breathable I always feel dry. A couple years ago I used a pair I got from gander and some fleece pants on the coldest late season Michigan hunt I'd ever experienced and I stayed warm. Those same waders leaked the next year and Gander "barely" took them back. I got tired of leaky waders and decided i'd look for the best return gaurantee and that ended up being from LL Bean. I bought a pair of their "Helix" breathable with 1600 gram thinsulate boot, so far so good comfortable and warm feet. My hunting buddies think I'm crazy not using neoprene but at the end of the day i don't have that damp feeling inside & out and wearing them is like wearing a pair of jeans and muck boots. The only time I wear neoprene is when I'm hunting near rocks or anything that may cut them, the lacrosse pair I have are expendable, the LL bean are not... so far they are the best pair I've ever owned.
