Should I???

Try and pry the top and bottom apart before glassing the seams or just get as much 5200 off of the outside of the seam and rough up the edges before using FG tape and epoxy resin to glass the two halves together? The boat is glass and as far as I can tell there are no mechanical fasteners along the seam, just 5200.

It's a reedy creek boat and the 5200 has deteriorated in a few spots and it lets water into the inner hull. It has a drain plug to let the water out, but on one occasion last year I almost let too much water in. I was about 30 seconds from doing my best Jesus impression in a Manitoba beaver slough in late October. Not a great place for a swim.

Thanks for any input.

Dave,

I think it would be a major pain in the ass to try and pry those pieces apart and you may end up doing more damage in the process. If it were me I would sand and glass the edge. I would do two or three layers and overlap them like you would do a fillet on a a stitch and glue boat. I would shoot to have ~2" above and below the seam covered by the tape.
