It was damn cold for the Gulf Coast this morning, 27 degrees with ice on the saltwater and a 15-20 mph north wind. We figured it would be a good day to hunt and thought our spot would have water. WRONG!!
When we made a right turn in the godevil out of the channel & onto the flat, what we thought was water reflecting in the moon light was really ice on top of sandy mud. 20' later, we were stuck high & dry. Took us two hours and a bent godevil motor handle to get off the flat. Got back to the dock and called it a day. Luckily my buddy just called and he got the handle welded up & braced, ready for tomorrow!

Dang! I knew it felt cold this morning going to work but didn't realize it got that cold. Did you see any ducks out there? If this cold front doesn't push 'em down nothing will.

We saw a few, but not what we were expecting. My intuition is that we will get a push tonight, full moon & north wind and the Tenn Valley freezing up generally mean a big push. But we will see.
Supposed to be 23 here in the morning, burrrrrrr, that is cold for Mobile!

That 27 degrees would be a heat wave for us cheese heads this week. I guess you didn't get any shooting in because that always seems to warm me up 20 degrees more.

There should be plenty of birds pushed south to you since we've all got hard water up here. We're talking ice fishing now...

Cheers!

Another fun day in Mobile Bay huh? I've got these local birds figured out Carl, I sleep in to abot 8am. Then get up, take a hot shower, put a couple more logs in the wood stove, turn on the Outdoor Channel and cook some bacon 'n eggs. All the time looking out the window at a frosty thermometer that reads about 26 degees and I just smile....'cause I know that there will be a buch of woodies adn mayb a couple mallards coming into the pond down by the barn late in the afternoon when it warms up into the 40's.

I leave that that getting stuck in the waterless areas to guys like Bob Houk and Joe Hiroana......they are experts at running their Mud-Buddy equiped duck boats hundred of feet onto the mud in the darl hours of opening day hunts.

Belive me when I say that 20 foot is NOTHING compared to what Bob and Joe can do on opener! Hehehehehe!

You might try trapping this winter Carl....heck, I've caught wood ducks in my beaver sets before!

Glad you were not stuck for hours like Bob & Joe :^)

That's too easy to be called duck hunting! Kinda like staying in an RV at a campground with full hook ups & saying your camping! :)

Oh, i've been stuck for hours before. About 4 years ago I finished up a limit of gadwall the closing day at around 8:00. Sat in the boat until noon waiting for the tide to come in to float the boat again so I could go home. I'l try to find a picture of that one, it's a good one!
