Sleds

Was wondering what everyone thinks of a sled for a boat... was considering a jet sled with a prop kicker... for rivers / marsh ? push pole in the weeds...

paint olive drab, fast grass blind...

example http://www.tracysboats.com/jetboats_new.php

he can put camo seats and paint the interior 2 with olive drab...

not sure how popular backwater motors are here in michigan... I am also considering maybe a longtail motor as a kicker for duck hunting...

Just put it on during waterfowl season....

as do alot of other waterfowlers.....

Sleds are plate aluminum boats and are heavily built for rocky river conditions...if you don't have the conditions that require that plate thickness then paying for it up front, and in fuel costs both to trailer it and operate it seems foolish to me.....upside is you'll never wear one out...downside is cost to purchase, wt., and cost to operate....

Steve...

This boat boat would be a steelhead / duck boat... the rivers are gravel rock botom where I fish... muck where I hunt...

the same conditions and the sled might be a good choice.....props suck on sleds in rocky rivers for what its worth....

Rich, are you running the Grand or taking the boat elsewhere? I have seen guys using sleds to dropback steelhead on both sides of the state (St. Joe and Muskegon near you and the Au Sable from Oscoda) and they are definitely made for the task.

I was trying to remember the guide near you and it came back to me...Emil Dean was the name of the guide down on the Manistee with the heated custom made jetboat...he was pretty well known for his dropback success. Michigan Outdoors (and later Out of Doors) would usually do an episode each year with him.
