Guys it has been sometime since i posted a boat question so go easy on me !!LOL My wife tells me i need to take some time from my business to relax so i am contemplating rebuilding a sneak box for some solo hunts in the future . alot of guys take the sunfish and convert them however i really think i want a classic boat like a Barneget Bay sneak box or something similar . I have looked in the readers rigs and see a few but what are the pros and cons of what you all use ? This will not happen this year but it is something i just have always wanted so why not try it out . Thanks again

If you truly want a BBSB type, find one with a planing hull, especially if your going any distance. It may not be classic, but we have outboards now, lol.
Trust me on this....

I too have a Zack Taylor Widgeon that i built three years ago. It's a great little boat for a single hunter, dog and a few dozen decoys. Some day I want to build a traditional planked BBSB but thought the Widgeon was easier to build and would give me some experiance. Good luck with your decision. I'll be looking forward to pictures of your build.

Have you thought about just building a new Devlin boat, like the Broadbill or Bluebill?

Bill ,

I have looked at Zack taylor and could be a candidate , i really would like to restore an old baot if and when i get ready . as i move forward I will let you know if i need to see yours .

Thanks

Dave

Darin , Thank you for your response , i built a Cackler quite a few years ago and love it i am really looking to itch the boat building / restoration again . i am also thinking about outfitting my Cackler to hunt as a sneak box with the blind and all . I am still undecided at this point but will post up pics if and when i move forward

Hi Carl ,

Thank you for your response , I have a Cackler i built quite a few years ago so i am thinking of hunting it as a sneak box rather than a full blind system i have on it now . I was thinking about itching that baot restoration itch with an older BBSB .

I always hear this.... I have a Budmiles boat and it has a 9.9 on it. Do the conisider the pumkin seed hull a plaining hull. I get about 24 MPH out of it an it plains out .......... what are some boats with Plaining Hulls? I would like to see the difference.

Dave,

I was inspired by the Hybrid Duckboat thread on the Refuge Forums. Without realizing it, I ended up building a boat very similar to Zach Taylor's gunning jonboat. It just kind of evolved that way.

I don't know if you were impressed by seeing my boat on the water, but you are more than welcome to try hunting out of it (especially in light of all the great advice you provided when I was building it).

By the way, I think I overbuilt mine, and I could probably have constructed it lighter. On the other hand, I like how solid it is at present. I guess there are often trade-offs in boat building.

Ed Auman, a member here, had one for sale very Cheap on Facebook just the other day. Looked prime for a restoration.
