The bottom is completed, I think.....lol! Idid have to order more epoxy since we ran short. I also have started on the top. It has the thinned coat of epoxy and has been filled. I appologize for ya'll having to watch it in fast forward but time has not been on my side, Epoxy will be here hopefully by the end of the week. I have two days of epoxy work left, Then it is decoy racks, put the floor in, install the motor board, spray sheild and then go hunt!!! I'm trying like hell to get in atleast acouple of hunts before the season is closed. It will be close but I may be able to pull it off. I'll keep you updated. I am very happy with it so far.

Wow, you did a great job. I was dubious when I saw the early pictures with all of the rot, but it looks like you did it right, replacing bad wood and sistering frames with good wood, then fiberglass over all of it. Good luck and keep the pics coming.

T.C.,

Thank you for sharing your progess and taking lots of pics. It's going to be an awesome sneakbox. You're living the dream! Someday I want to do that too.

I have way to much respect for the bay around here not to make sure it's done right. Thanks for the positive comments from everyone. CHris

Chris I have been following this rebuild with anticipation and you are doing a great job of it, its nice to see it coming together and thanks for posting the photo's.

God Bless
Eddie.

Chris has done this old gunner much justice since he rescued her from that old barn down in Greenwich, NJ. If this box was left in the shape she was and not stripped of that nasty old poly resin and glass, she wouldn't have been able to be saved. Chris has put ALOT of time and effort into giving this old craft new life. It's registered as a circa 1940 boat. We were talking about this boat's potential history and were both wondering about all the hunts this little sneakbox has been on and the birds who bloodied her decks. Hopefully, with the choices Chris has made as to the repair and refurbish process, this gunner will outlast us all. Atta boy, Chris!

More pics, top is glassed. It just needs to be sanded and a final top coat of epoxy. I went solo for a portion of the top deck because Mike had another engagement, He helped me get the fabric on before he left and I went about embedding it myself. It was interesting to say the least. I'm going to bed enjoy. I'm in the home stretch...... Chris

Question for you and the group (I apologize for the sidetrack). How prevalent is it in a BBSB to cut out a separate box for a dog behind the hunter's compartment? Is it "old school"? A question of asthetics? Or is it just more practical?

Although I am not quite there yet, I would like to have both a dog and a BBSB (one day), and I was wondering whether this is something I should consider looking ahead.

To me it's practical and safer, if dog is behind you he can't break on shots( I don't care what ya say at some point they all do it!) and they are not getting muzzle blasted, like they would if they sat in the boat with you.

Chris, nice job, box looks great. I will be rebuilding a buddy miles 12 ft box this summer also here in south jersey, glass over cedar. Keep up the good work and keep the progress pics coming.

I am glad Chris is doing this project. Mike has helped him along the way, and over the summer I plan on having Chris help me re-glass my box. I have a 1950s Heinrich that I am going to reglass the bottom. What are your guys thoughts on glassing the deck? Should I do it or leave it unglassed, and why?

My dad has an identical Heinrichs to yours, like a twin. I don't think you'd have to glass the deck so long as it is currently in good shape and, most importantly, you keep the boat inside. If you have to keep it outdoors for any length of time I'd suggest glassing the deck.

Chris,

Thats a good looking boat you have there. Very nice work on the restoration. Looks like your almost there. Enjoy and keep the pictures coming.
I was thinking about cutting my foredeck and putting a box for the dog. I have to agree with you. Every dog breaks at some point even the best of them.
For now, I was going to make a dodger with enough room in front of the cockpit combing so my dog can sit on the foredeck and still be protected by the dodger for those cold wet days and the ride home.

Regards,
John

Alittle slow with the updates but I have some more pics for you. I'm down to the home stretch. I'll be painting it this week. Last week Mike and myself finished sanding the top deck. We laid out the motorboard and mocked it up. And mocked up the ice runners. Setting up the motor board was abit tricky and took some thought but we worked it out. Motor board is 2in white oak. You'll see alot of lines as well as the final shape in the mock up pics. Ice runners went pretty well. They are made of composite decking ripped into strips 1/2 thick and then drilled and screwed with stainless wood screws. I also took the boat home last week to finish up the rest. Thanks again Mike for everything. You'll see his favorite pic at the end!!! :D

I continued with the work when I got it home and have completed more. I got the final shape of the motorboard done and a coat of epoxy on it. I did that to give it alittle extra protection before painting it. The oar locks are completed and have a coat of epoxy as well Hey are made of 2 pieces 1 in white oak glued together with gorilla glue and clamped. I was gonna put some screws in but after I saw how good the bond was fult there was no reason to . Both pieces are sanded and will be installed prob. tomorrow. The ice runners are installed I bedded them with 3m 5200 and the rescrewed them also. Gonna work on the decoy racks tomorrow as well and install the floor. Paint here we come!!!!!
