Snow Goose Pedestal Seats?

Hello all. I'm building a Sam Devlin Snow Goose and have a question about the use of pedestal seating. I have read through older posts here and see that very few people use pedestal seating. I understand that it's not ideal for hunting purposes (keeping decks clear) and that the freeboard of a Snow Goose is pretty low (so it might seem like you're sitting rather high above the boat). I was considering installing 4 pedestal bases (like Swivl-Eze type) that offer the ability to remove pedestals when the seats aren't in use. As I'd be fishing from this boat I would think the chairs would offer a comfortable height. And as I'll be installing a small console it might make a good driving seat. Any feedback on whether this might be a good or bad idea very much appreciated.

Best to all,
- Kris

Hello,
I'm building the snow goose as well. I plan to put pedestal seats in my boat. I have a cackler I built in 2005 and I bolted the chairs to the floor and they always got in the way. I plan to put two in my boat. I'm also going to use a console. I plan to raise the floor on mine to give myself an extra inch or so since the pedestal takes 4 inches under the deck. In the back I might have to use a block under the pedestal to make sure it will fit. It sounds like we aren't too far apart in our builds from your post so maybe we could bounce ideas off each other.
Thanks!

Hey there Michael,
First off, thank you very much for your response. I' feel very lucky to have found some great and knowledgeable people in this forum.

A fellow Snow Goose Builder! Cool! I've blogged my boat build progress. You can see it here if you have absolutely nothing better to do : )

I have to warn you... this is my first build and I may have taken some rather unorthodox approaches in certain areas. Overall though, I think she's coming out quite nicely so far. This weekend I'm hoping to finish up sole installation and perhaps get to top-deck installation.

The more I thought about the seating the more I'm questioning pedestals. I know that most guys like to keep the floor as clear and open as possible. But because I will be using the boat to take the family around and do some fishing, seats might be nice : ) I'm still thinking about pedestal vs. homemade solutions. Now that the floor is in, it gives me the chance to use a 5-gallon bucket to get a better idea for how seats can fit, etc. I'd love to hear what your thoughts are.

It would be my pleasure to talk with you any time. If you'd ever like to chat just drop me an email or I'll give you my cell number and we can chat. I know it helps me to talk to experienced builders. There are some smart, experienced guys who have built Snow Goose' on this forum as well.

Thanks again!
Look forward to chatting with you and seeing any progress pictures if you have em.
Have a great weekend Michael,
Best,
- Kris
