So I committted.. I went and got some juniper. To date I've carved exactly 4 wood ducks, 2 mottled ducks, 3 drake and 3 hen mallards, 7 black ducks and 13 gw teal, 1 brant, but I wanted to carve more. Anybody want to play a game? Guess how many ducks are in the pile. At the rate I'm carving we should know in 2015.

I did some quick math and I believe there are 86 decoys waiting in that load of wood.

Those logs are measured according to the Doyle scale. There is 659 bf according to that rule which allows quite a bit for slabbing/squaring... up to 4 inches plus a few 5/16 saw kerfs. The butts on some of these was 22+ inches and the Doyle method uses the narrower end and therfore discounts taper. I think there are about 170 birds in there depending on if they are turkeys or teal. Of course it will be awhile before the cutting begins...25% mc right now.
