Some eider shots from today

Went out this afternoon for a spin on the bay and to see if any stripers were in yet, although early. It's always nice though to see the eiders, regardless of the time of year. Hope you enjoy.

Troy....brings back memories of Eider hunts with Bill Wasson and great DHBP get togethers in both the winter and the summer.....great stuff and thanks for jogging my memory...

Now that made my day to look at these beautiful pictures, Troy. Thanks so much. Looks like you had a great day. Because I don't know, what do these ducks eat?

Thanks Steve, I've heard great things of Bill, although never met him personally. Glad you were able to go back in memory for a moment, they are wonderful birds.

Glad the photos made the coffee a little smoother this morning Al. Their diet consists mostly of mollusks and crustaceans of sorts. They dive along rocky shorelines and shoals, picking their meals off the rocks and structure below.
Glad you enjoyed the pictures.

Hi Phil,
I shoot more eiders with my camera nowadays than I do with steel. BUT, when I do put one on the water, I soak in salt water for a day or two then marinate in soy sauce, oj, brown sugar and garlic. Thinly sliced served over rice with some type of sauce, usually mushroom. It's not beef that's for sure, but when shown a little love it can be good table fare for those that like game.
Thanks, Troy

They are pretty birds. Have never seen one in the wild, might have to make a trip to check them out one of these days.

Nice shots, Troy. Makes me want to get some salt on the boat!

On the stripers, my brother in law has been in schoolies for 2 days in Marblehead, so they around the Cape and on the north shore. Won't be low before they make it up to your haunts. I'm thinking it may be a little longer here on the Kennebec.

OK by me. I've got a week of trout fishing starting next Saturday, and stripers for mid-June would be about right.
