Some Ice Fishing Pictures

SJ: I may be up for it on Saturday. I'll be taking my 8 year old, so I was considering Big Bay for bluegill and pickerel. Although I was also thinking about going to the north end of Cayuga Lake for the same species.

Where were you thinking of going?

A friend and I are after walter, I normally fish the north shore from Constantia east. I'm checking with some locals for a snow/slush report, so far it looks ok for the atv. Boy, I love that lake.

Let me know when you decide where you're going. If the perch are hitting too, we may come out. The older boys will be camping out with the Scouts near Constantia, so it may be nice to get to swing in and visit them. I haven't got an ATV, so wherever we go we'll be walking out.

One year back up in PA we had a quick freeze with no snow. The lake we lived along had about 6-8" of clear ice. I remember walking around looking at all the rocks & structure where we were fishing. Very cool, but I don't remember catching many fish!

I hoping to give up ice fishing and get into spear fishing/ inshore fishing. I already caught my keeper through the ice.

When i talk about white stuff i want to be talking about sand.

With my luck ill get a job at the north pole, lol.

I used to like you a lot. Your parking lot insults were second to none, for a state bagger, but this is over the top! To the icy white north with you! lol

Where do you ice fish around NYC? I grew up on Long Island and we did do some ice fishing on the Twin Lakes in Wantagh, but a lot of my ice fishing back then was up in Pennsylvania.
Hi John,

Mostly in Harriman and Sterling State Parks in Rockland County but also in Sullivan and Ulster Counties in the Catskills. I was introduced to it at Sandy Pond on the east shore of Lake Ontario. Had a lot of great times there.

That's a lunker pickerel Tom! We've had some good trips with the pike and perch at Sandy Pond.

We used to camp at Harriman when I was in the Boy Scouts. Those weekend trips were a lot of fun.

Conall and I recently went fishing. It was our first time catching lakers, what a blast!
