Some neat stuff

I've inherited a few really neat things that I thought some of y'all might appreciate (stuff that I could have used and had access to before but now they are MINE [sly]). I have more turkey decoys than I ever figured I'd have when I started hunting and this one is probably my favorite just because I had never seen one like it before. It's a foam turkey decoy and the head stays on with magnets.

Another cool thing I brought home this weekend is this gunning box. Made by Ron Koch. I found a short article on the Wisconsin Waterfowlers Association page about him and it got me curious about him and the decoys he carved. Is he still alive? I don't know when the article was written.

Anyway, I thought y'all might find these things kinda neat too.

Interesting decoy, I've never seen one like it.

That's a classic gunning box popular with skiff hunters in central Wisconsin. Last I heard Ron is still paddling around his stomping grounds though age has slowed him down.

Yup it is....the other side was peppered pretty good, including the eye....it has it's own eye patch

That is great, lot of birds shot over that rig and Steve introduced a lot of guys to seaducks.

Here are some shots of that rig from over 20 years ago (year: 1999).

Not sure anyone knows this young guy here, but shooting over those E Allens of Steve's was one of his first real hunting adventures.

Post up some more treasures.

Nice hat, hadn't realized it's been 20 years since I made them for the forum... I wonder how many guys still have them.

Still have mine, it is pretty pristine. Something to be said for quality work. :).

Still have mine, but it is retired, its on a shelf.

I'll take that as a compliment Tod :)
Maybe Eric might want to do another hat run so Carl can have a backup and use the one on his shelf.

Sorry Dani, didn't mean to hijack post.

No worries Mark! I would be in for a hat....and just so's you know, I am pretty sure Steve still had his. That man had nearly as many hats as he did socks so I can't recall for sure.

Tod, I almost didn't recognize you! Steve really did enjoy introducing people to sea ducks...took lots of pleasure in showing people that they aren't nasty eating too.

I will get some pictures of some more of my treasures

In addition to making them can you set up an e-store, and ship? I'd be game if we can get something like our shirt sales set up. If you don't I might be able to get the folks that did our shirts to do hats if you could supply them.

Dani~

Every time I open this post I see the Turkey on your stove top - and expect to see a bag of Pepperidge Farm Stuffing Mix - and not hot dog buns...

Great post!

Eric I'll get ahold of you in the new year and see if we can do this. This year has everything screwed up making us revamp how we do a lot of things, including eCommerce.

Roger that.

Well I am sure I could figure how to make hot dog buns relevant

Here are some more of my treasures. Some are birds from Steve's bird hospital that I will carve some heads for. The scoter with the eye patch is from a hunt with Paul Gery. The front burlapped scoter is one I carved for Steve. The Chilean Widgeon actually tickles me a lot because the Chilean widgeon was the first widgeon I had ever shot. The decoy was carved by Lee Harker. The Eurasian and American widgeon were carved by Steve. So now my only three widgeon decoys represent all three species. I have yet to shoot an Eurasian widgeon.

The goldeneyes that are displaying are birds made by Steve and Mark Vanderhoof. I believe that Mark came to Steve's house and did a carving class? Debby told me that Mark had had a prearranged phone call set up so that if Steve and Debby turned out to be axe murderers or disgusting slobs, that Mark had an emergency he had to get home for. That still tickles her and I got a great laugh out of that story.

I will have more treasures I am sure
