Great pictures from your season! It is nice to see the kids out, and cleaning ducks!

How were the bird numbers out by you?

hit or miss John, the youth season we were covered up in teal, woodies and local mallards and blacks, the week before the opener we had a strong cold front move through violently from the north and cleared out a good number of teal and woodies and then it warmed up and was blue skies and calm for the opener. I don't care a whole lot for the circus act that is early season puddleduck hunting around here so we didn't get out until mid october and targeted big water divers. we did real well around the middle of october when a strong system moved through. november we had real good numbers of divers but we spent a lot of time kicked off of the "x" by high winds, still had good hunts. the puddle ducks didn't really show up in strong numbers until the last week of the season and then not again until after christmas. Just this last week the thousands of mallards crossing my house from a river to the corn feilds every day has started to thin out, the snow and cold is finally pushing them along. by and large one of the top 3 strangest seaons weather wise in my short 25 some seasons of ducking

What's the deal with the poker chips on the last pic?
When we hunt we usually have at least 3 and sometimes up to 5-7 guys. We have a 24' blind boat, a layout boat and a 14' tender we run back and forth to the layout with. all the birds go onto a shelf in the aft starboard side of the blind boat. I had recieved an email from a fellow hunter that the local co's where we were hunting had been writing tickets for "group limits" when they checked guys and they didn't have their birds tagged. I'll be damned if I'm going to fill out a tag while i'm hunting to placate a wound up co but, I don't want a citation, so i had my son make up those poker chips so we could tag birds as they were retrieved. everyone gets a different color with their initials on it. really kind of fun, now the younger guys fight over who didn't hit the duck instead of who did!

A great series of pictures of what it's like to hunt the big lake--thanks! The shot of the blond on the foot stool is a classic.

Funny story on the Bridge.... my wife and I rode our motorcycles from VA up through MI and the UP and around to Milwaukee a few years ago for the Harley 105th.... my wife does not like heights, and is not a fan of high bridges, especially on a bike. To top it off, the Mackinaw has the grating in the left lane and that is a real pucker factor on a bike as the tire contact area is really small! So I did the research, knew the right lane was paved. so we stopped before the bridge for gas, and she is OK, though stressed about the bridge. I said we will take it easy and she will be fine. As soon as we pass the last opportunity to get off before the bridge we see the construction signs that force us to the left lane the whole way over the bridge. She made it but she was not happy!

Thanks guys, i used to be hesitant to post pictures as i feared "cyber scouters" stealing my spots, lately, the areas we are hunting are so distant and the equipment so specialized that i don't worry so much about that, hell, there are days i wouldn't mind some company LOL!

the blonde in the pic is my son, he's 13 years old and been ducking along side me since he was 4. the boy has managed to put 19 different species in his bucket already and has devloped a very healthy attitude towards hunting. likes the drakes, doesn't like to shoot out past 30 yards, as happy with a goose egg as a limit as long as the old man doesn't get "dag nabbity" a very proud pappa am I.

Yes that is the mighty "Mac" I don't think i could do the motorcyle. i am fine in the truck but towing the 24' hard sided blind boat in a 40-50 mph crosswind my knuckles turn a little white

Love the bloody dog pic.
That is Chach, he had a punctured stomach about 2 years ago and almost didn't make it, he spent 3 days in a coma and it left him a little, well, brain damaged i guess. He was a great retriver, whistle, hand commands, retrieved to heal....now he wont even jump off the boat but still loves the hunt and the birds, cant mark a bird to save his life anymore but i still take him and once every few birds i take him out to in the tender to deliver him to a bird and let him swim back to the boat with it. My buddies think i'm crazy but it makes the dog happy, and thats good enough reason for me

Oh no! Dude, tell him he has amazing hair!!!

So sorry!!!

And also tell him not to worry, I'm 33 and people still think I'm a chick!

On the phone, at the drive thru....forget about it! I hear "Please pull up Ma'am" at least once a week!

Dude, I could post some pics that would make everyone on here p!zz their pants!

Picture it.....a young, angry, punk rock Swamper circa 1997-98. Hair that long or longer, but dyed JET black, oh and don't forget the earrings!
