Somebody count these for me......

I'll be back later with the part of the flock where the "bulk" of the birds were but figured the "edges" should get counted first.....

To help out here's a little tighter shot of the almost mile long flock preening on the edge of the ice....seperates it a little so that you don't miss any.....

And getting just a little bit tighter to give the "counters" an even better idea of density.....starts to seperate the species too.....reckon we should count by species instead of just total?

Write your answer down you'll need to remember them when the next section, (the one with "lots" of birds in it), goes up......

Steve

Steve you have got has much chance of me counting those, has the man in the moon kicking me up the backside.
take care and God Bless
Eddie.
Its all about Building that Bond.

high enough not to flush them....and at "above 50 mph".....and they seperate species.....

Come on I put up the "easy" pictures first......

Steve

European Wigeon in the flock.....never could pick em out visually though......

You missed the deer that were down in the gully when they shutter closed......there were more than "three"......

Since there is no barley that is not Paul's Pond.

Since there are actually ducks in the photos it is not Moses Lake.

Since there is a noticable water level change based on the shore line it is a reservoir.

I am sure that are no Black Ducks, Mottled Ducks, or Mexican Ducks.

Where is the stitched together photo showing all the birds in one huge image?

It appears that I need to create an ice sheet blind material so that the birds have someplace to rest in open water. I hope they don't mind resting near a large seal hauled out on the ice.

thats actually my decoy spread.....look close and you'll see a couple of "nasty" spinning wing decoys.......I would have out out a larger spread but my Barnaget isn't a an Estuary and doesnt' carry enough of a load to make a decent spread......neither will it run 40+ mph so that I can make multiple trips in the amount of time available to set decoys......

I'm working on the "stitched" picture......problem is that the line of birds is so long that if I show it all then it will look like a oil slick instead of ducks.......

Steve

If you ever get the chance to fly on survey flight don't pass it up. It is a fantastic experience. While not for the faint of heart or those with weak stomaches it is a great time.

I had the opportunity to fly as an observer a few years back and would go again in a heartbeat. The biologists counted over 100,000 birds in an hour and a half. Very cool!

Great pictures Steve!

zero ducks
They can't be ducks because they never migrated and did not exist to begin with.

Tim-

They could be ducks, they just couldn't be NORTHERNS. They could all be locals doncha know....you see any feets in there? Gotta check the color on their feets to know for sure if the migration occurred...

Darn it you got me there Dani. Never thought that it could just be a really big flock of park ducks.

Well, there's ice on the big pond there....maybe that means all the little ponds where the park ducks sit froze up and they just moved to a big pond instead of behaving like a proper duck and heading south.....

Dani

Not only are the birds Steve's decoys....they are old style blow up / drop on Deeks made from latex....take up less room in the boat......he just doesn't have time to carve that many cork or cedar decoys....
