Something for you safety minded cold weather guys

All I want to now Fred, is if that picture is this year or last...........
My boat is back together, but now it is having fuel issues. Too darn cold in the garage to work on it..........

Fred, you have to love those cold weather hunts. From Jan 7, 2011 with Ernie Roberts.

Fred, I need to get to your side of the mountains or errr I guess country.....at least I'm on this side of the earth this week.

Paul, why is it that some drake cans are almost white looking like that first one? What a phenomenal shoot you and Ernie had. IfI had been with you, I can guarantee you that hen in the back is the one I would have shot.

Al, the other birds are Redheads.... there is only 1 can in that shot. I nice silverback bull!

There is a funny story about that can. An officer decided to stop by and check our licenses and while he was doing so that can decided to circle. I had already been checked and Ernie was showing his license when I turned to the fellow and said do you mind? He said go ahead and I returned to the blind and a couple of minutes later dropped the can. It was the only one we saw that day. Ten redheads, one can and one goldeneye.

Thanks so much, Dave. I should have known better but didn't. It's been 56 years since I shot any of them.

Fred;

Just got back to Washington from a 5 day pheasant hunt in South Dakota. It was blistering cold for 4 out of the 5 days............-20 most of the time, and one day we had 25mph winds. At noon it would warm up to about -5, but thats about as warm as it would get. We got birds, but they were ultra wary and would flush wild when you would even slow the truck down, not to mention stopping and slamming a door. We used the old blocking technique and got shots,( they were the long 45+ yard ones).

I'm glad we didn't have your chart with us for the trip..........if we had, we probably would have just stayed inside and had hot buttered rums, and forgot about chasing ringnecks.

But seriously, that kind of cold with wind can do you in quickly. My Citori safety froze up and I couldn't get it off safe,........I took my gloves off to try and free it up and after about 30 seconds my finger tips were starting to go numb. After that I started carring an extra pair just in case I lost a glove.

Youv'e got to hand it to those South Dakotans, to get thru 3 months of that extreme weather, you have to be damm tough.

Gary, I had a hunt like that in North Dakota one time, it was so windy and cold you couldn't stand to walk into the wind, kind of takes away the idea of a "gentleman's" pheasant hunt.
