Southbay spray shield

Try Southbay's site, hear they don't return calls well. If you need help with a pattern, I can trace mine. Should be able to fabricate with foam board and glass...

Rich, does that little breakwater do much? I saw that on Rufus' Southbay, and thought it was a good idea based on the bow shape, but was surprised it did not wrap around more?

The spray shield keeps water from going over the combing. Also I grass it a little heavy to break up my big head profile. Looks cool too... Could be a little larger [not much though]...

The spray shield does very little in keeping out water. The canvas keeps out the water. When you are laying down with the flap boards closed your head is above the combing. The spray shield keep your head from sticking out like a soar thumb it also blocks the wind.If you were to count on that to work like a breakwater you will get really quick.

Gents~

I put similar features on most of my gunning boats - at least on those where I hide by lying on my back. I call them "cowlings" - they keep the wind out and hide my head silhouette (esp if I have the sun behind me). I make mine out of canvas but a rigid one like on the South Bay makes it easier to thatch. (I've often thought the Model Perfect Scooter or Sneakbox would have the cowling molded as part of the upper decks.....)

For keeping seas out of the cockpit, I use a spray dodger that is fastened to the deck at its foot and curves a bit back along the cockpit. The dodger is folded down when I'm gunning.

All the best,

SJS

I like the spray shield as it is, a few inches larger could be better. I do not like the canvas shield as I cannot see to the sides. I use a face mask and hood in wet weather. Face mask is necessary on calm days.
Still is a ball to watch birds diving into your rig, while by passing larger blinds with big rigs. The thrill of the hunt...
Never got a Duck Boat decal... When they are offered again I'm in for 2-3...

Pat, I thought that picture of the one you had made from my old mouse-eaten template was quite nice...are you setting up a production line? Hope all is well with you and the family, Rufus

1) I'm looking for the hard fiberglass one that looks like a windshield
2) the canvas one turned out good, a few minor things need to be done to it.
I'm also am having a soft top made, so I do not need the hard fiberglass
top all the time.
3) the trailer is in rehab, it's about 75% sanded down to bare metal, new hubs
and tires.
4) I also treated myself and went for the EFI 20hp Suzuki.
