Southern Ontario

Has anyone hunted Southern Ontario? Our ND trip fell through this fall, so we're looking for something a little closer to home.

What are the opportunities to freelance? We'd be using our sneakboxes, so marshland/bays would be best.

Thanks,

Here in Southern Ontario its just finding the ducks.I live right on Lake Ontario and the places to hunt are endless but knowing where to go is the trick.
Early season there is always lots of teal, later if you use layout boats and do alittle scouting you will find rafts of bluebills and if its late in the season you can shoot the late mallards and blacks.
We use to do alot of late season hunting for whistlers and bufflehead and we were usually the only hunters around for miles and there was an endless amount of old squaw but we would never shoot these because here they are considerd junk.I know of one outfitter around the Brockville area that you may want to try ,I see them on TV all the time ,,try St. Lawrance Outfitters or check out the lake Erie ,Lake St Clair area ,from what I hear its really good,,,,,,,,Chuck

Kirk,

For someone in your situation I'd suggest trying either Rondeau or Long Point, both on Lake Erie. They have managed hunting opportunities that will normally produce birds throughout the season. They also offer the chance to hunt larger water and get away from the “government marsh” if you feel a bit more adventurous. Hunting pressure can be high, but like most places it really depends on the day of the week and time of the year.

Areas along the north shore of Lake Ontario and into the St Lawrence river also offers some great shooting, but in my opinion the birds are more concentrated and accessible for a newcomer in a place lake Rondeau or Long Point.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.
