I get a call from my brotherinlaw yesterday and he says "hey man we aint getting any younger when are we going to do that sinkbox hunt we always spoke about?" I said your right its getting to that now or never time.A few years back I met Canadian guide Roger Gladu at the SHOT show in Vegas he tells me he's the guy to come see.I do some internet searching and find his website except its all in french.I sent him an email hoping to hear from him soon. His sinkbox looks great and he has hunts posted on you tube that are awesome.Anyone have any experience with this outfitter and maybe some tips and what to expect before we get there? We have been talking about this hunt for years and are finally ready to "pull the trigger"
Thanks for any help
Rob

Change the subject of your post to something about "sinkbox hunting" and you will get a lot more responses....

Never been but here's an article I found http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Back+in+a+battery%3A+a+water's-eye+view+proves+deadly+in+Quebec-a0238358847

and the guys website http://www.aupays-delasauvagine.qc.ca/wildfowl.htm.

It's a great article. I remember somebody had some great pictures of a trip they had recently been on this past season over on the refuge site http://www.refugeforums.com/refuge/. I looked quickly but couldn't come up with it. You may want to post up over there too! Good luck.

GRECO, i haven't been w/ the guides you have mentioned but myself and kris schaumburg hunted from nova scotia duck tubs (yes, i prefer the term sinkbox as well) last year.

it was a great experience and had a great time..........we went with philip finck off east ironbound island. philip post here some. i think if you searched this forum for sink box, you'll pull him up and some of my pics from the trip.

edited to add link to my experience.

hope this helps, justin

Called Canada today and spoke to "Richard" the sinkbox guide for Roger Gladu and setup some tentative dates for a 3 day hunt for 4 guys which would include 2 days in the sinkbox and a 1 day marsh hunt.He spoke perfect english which was a relief because his website is all in french and he was such a nice guy and we are looking foward to putting this trip together. He has cottages right on the river where he hunts so all we do is roll out of bed and walk down to the shore and we are ready to load up and go.will post progress as we go along..

Checked the 5 day forecast and its looking favorable for a sinkbox hunt..hopefully We'll get some good pics

you will be gunning around the lac st pierre area-Lots of boxes out there--Here's hoping the bluebills get there when you go---

We had a great time up in Quebec with Roger Gladu.I can personally tell you that the waterfowling tradition is alive and well along the shores of the St. Lawrence river. He is a nice knowledgable guy and has a HUGE amount of gear, boats, decoys, etc. There is literally tons of gear all around..decoys stacked up here and there..labs walking all around the place...a bird cleaning trailer, ice shanties.. duck and deer hunters coming and going from the marina..we stayed in his cottage right on the the edge of the river and it was immaculate with a great view. They make all there own decoys there for the sinkbox hunts and his sinkbox is very stable and safe.Unfortunately the weather has been mild and the migrations of goldeneyes and bluebills is not what it should be.We only managed to kill a goose and a merganser on our sinkbox hunt and saw very little action. On the other hand the MARSH hunting was absolutely outstanding and we had limits every morning or afternoon. So we cut back on the sinkbox and concentrated on where the action was.We hunted the edge of a DU project refuge on a private island that Roger leases and there were huge flocks of puddlers like we've never seen in our lives. We shot blackducks, mallards, pintails and teal every day.We had a great time and didnt want to go home ..3 days went way too quick.I would highly reccommend this hunt and outfitter and if anyone needs info just drop me a line.am not too good at posting pics will try my best.If you ever wonder where your DU money goes and if its going to good use..visit Canada..all those ducks travel to us eventually.

Anywhere near Lake St. Pierre? St. Pierre is just a bulge in the St. Lawrence and I fished walleye there several times out of a camp in Sorel, on the west end of the lake. The camp also guides goldeneye and hunts out of sink boxes, but I can't remember the name of the camp/guide. I do remember the St. Lawrence was a huge marsh in that area with a lot of channels. Looked like a great duck hunting area.

Yes his site is in french but if you call them on the phone you will get an english speaking person to help you out.I think Roger's camp is the one you guys are referring to..its also a marina for fisherman and they do ice fishing out of there too. When we were there we told them it would be good for them to have an english version of the site and they said they are working on it.Very nice and accomodating folks there,I would highly reccommend them.

In your second pic I see no life jackets. Do you hunt out of those sinkboats without jackets? Looks like a long swim to shore in those clothes. Just curious.

yes your right they had them and we could have used them but declined because of the unusually calm weather and tight quarters...and even though it looks deep only about 5 ft there and no boat traffic..guide was anchored nearby the whole day with binos and a radio..my brotherinlaw also did a hunt in the sinkbox a day before us and it was much rougher out and they used pfds..
