Speaking of Sneak Box Boats...

Well, I don't know if there actually is an ongoing discussion of the little wooden Boats, but I have a question about using one with an outboard.


I am thinking of keeping the tank up front, under the deck, then run the hose somewhere along the side of the interior, and drill a hole near the motor, big enough to run the hose thru, and protect it with a grommet of some sort, in order to keep the deck clear.


What do you guys who run these little boats, do?

My old higbee had a hole back near the transom for the gas line to come out and hook to the motor. I liked that a lot because you could put the hatch on without having to disconnect the line every time. My gas tank was in the rear but I know that a lot of guys put them up front for weight/leg room in the back.

I did put my gas tank up front and ran the house under the shelves. I like keeping the weight up front and having lots of room aft for my feet when hunting. I built a shelf just forward of the cockpit. I debated about drilling a hole in the aft deck, but haven't. I still think about it now and then but haven't brought myself to do it.

I will post a picture when I can but the KMT Highlands Box has the gas tank up front with the primer bulb running thru the cockpit for access. There is a bronze thru hull fitting in the Aft from there there is a small fuel line to the motor with a quick detach. I hope that helps.

Gas tank forward of the cockpit if shooting over the motor. Helps balance the boat as well.

I just run the fuel hose out of the cockpit and over the back deck. One less hole in the deck with no fuel fittings.

I do as Craig does. Tank is under front deck, along the port side of the dagger board truck. Anchors are stowed on the starboard side of the trunk. Because of the displacement shape of my hull, the outside edges of the rear deck will be awash when I am running WOT and there is no other weight in the boat. I don't need anymore holes in my boat! Fuel line simply runs over the back deck to the port side.

I run the hose through PVC pipe to protect it from getting punctured on the side of the boat inside.
