I have always enjoyed this specie of duck. The drake can sure get all dressed up when he is getting ready for the breeding season.

I love Spoonies, they are simply amazing when in breeding plumage and the ones here are tasty too!
 
Wonderful shots Al! From somebody who carves and uses spoonbill decoys in his rig, this is a real treat. Currently, there are many spoonies in the Illinois River Valley, teal too. Thank you for the treat!!! Pat

I think you should hunt right there Al. Plenty of water. We never see spoonies that nicely colored. Beautiful birds.

Mark,these pictures were taken over the course of the last couple of years. We do see them look like this when hunting during the month of January.

The water is at Bosque del Apache NWR which is just 8 miles south of our home.
