Spoonies...

I appreciate and enjoy your work Pat.It will be interesting to see how you paint the birds you stamped.
Thanks again, John

Pat, have you decided on how many spoonbills will be in your rig for the "Great Spoonie Hunt of 2013"? I'll look forward to seeing them painted. Enjoy your time spent on them.

Al - I anticipate there will be 14-16 spoonbill decoys mixed in with some BWT, pintails, mallards and widgeon most likely totalling 3-4 dozen... Pat

Thanks Tom! We have a ton of them at our duck club every fall. We have the perfect habitat for them and blue wings when the river behaves. The way I see it, we need to thin the herd otherwise they'll just continue to grow in numbers. We're just doing our part... Pat

Pat, I recently bought a pair of your Spoonies on here and love them. Iit would be nice to see more pics of the carving and painting process as I have always admired your carving. Someday, I hope to learn to carve and make some birds that are half as nice as yours!

Chris - Thank you for your kind words. Lots of spoonies fell over those decoys. I am glad you have them and enjoy them. We have good spoonie habitat at our duck club so we get lots of them. I like having them in the rig as they are a gorgeous duck. In the spring, I don't know of a prettier male that the drake Northern Shoveler.

As far as carving/painting, we will be filming more carving segments and posting them up, so be looking for them. Also, my paint pattern on my blue wing teal hen is essentially the same, minus the bill, on the spoonie hen. We posted up a painting segment I did at the St. Charles Show on The Decoy Shed Website. It's under the In The Shop heading... www.thedecoyshed.org

If you're ever in Illinois, stop by. My shop is always open... Pat

I did watch the new videos very nice. The Ben H. interview was almost as good as watching you paint that lady.

We get a decent amount of shovelers here as well and yes... they are a gorgeous bird, I have a nice drake mounted that I shot years ago at our family blind. I wish I was closer, I would love to learn to carve from you. Since Long Island, NY is too far away for that, I will be sure to watch the videos.

Chris - I'll be in Brooklyn the week of July 21 thru 27th for some Mission Work with the Brooklyn Tabernacle. Maybe we can get together one night... Pat

Where in Brooklyn Pat ? Feel free to stop by my place for dinner. I'll take you out and then, show you the 2nd biggest collection of Schmiedlin's in the world (80+ birds). I know that you and Jim are great friends and that you admire his decoys.
