Spotlight Question

The 10 watt one is the one I have and it is the leaker. Super bright but not going back in the boat without its Ziplock coat.

Perfect timing for this post to resurface. I finally had the occasion this weekend to try out the spotlight that was the original subject of the post. I purchased this Coleman spotlight from Cabelas and mounted it to the grab bar that runs over the top of the center console.

The mounting bracket worked better than I thought -it kept the light stable in a small chop, but I still do not know how well it will work in rougher water. I was, however, a little disappointed with the light itself. It was bright, but it didn't seem to penetrate the dark very far. In fact, it was so bright around the boat that it was almost blinding. It was a little foggy Saturday morning, and I'm sure that had something to do with the blinding effect of the light, but I still feel like I have had spotlights that penetrate the fog and dark better without blinding you. I'll give this another try when there is no fog, but I think this one might be going back to Cabelas. It's unfortunate too, because I really like the idea of a hands-free spotlight.

I have used the smaller 5 watt LED for a few years... but happened to be in WalMart the other night and saw the 10 watt model, now priced at $37.50 so I picked one up. Significantly brighter than the 5 watt, with a mush wider beam too. Well worth the money. The smaller unit is now in the truck.

Just and FYI anyone needs a light....

Tom,

There are two different model Stanley lights; 5 watt = waterproof and floats; 10 watt= lithium battery, not for wet environments.

The 5 watt ( on the left)might be a better choice in a duck hunting environment but the 10 watt ( on the right) is a whole lot brighter.

Huh, was at the store today, and saw "one" on display...said to the wife the guys were raving about these...she said get it...I held out my hand and said "twist my arm"...anyway, while briefly looking it over, I noted the waterproofness which seemed contrary to the discussion here, but positive. Anyway, It will be brighter than what I got, and waterproof to boot.

Chuck

I don't think either fo those lights are waterproof. The one one the left sure is NOT, since I killed one falling through a pond last winter with it in my hand. I have one that is supposed to be waterproof, but it does not have a trigger, it has a knob where the trigger goes.
