Spring Kennel Build

Spent the last 4 weekends doing some spring kennel remodeling.
I have a 12 X 12 building that I have used for the past 2 years to house our labs . It has 2 kennels to each side, the problem I had with it is that the wind during the winter would hammer the dog doors on the North, West and East sides. So I made the decision to move the kennels off the building and use dog houses so I could face all the openings south.
Here's the new set up . I built the houses and made them 4x4 , 32 inches high in front and 31 inches high in back. There is 1 1/2 inches of Dow foam board in the roof sides and floor. The out side and roof are covered in steel , I will be adding dog doors in the fall that I am making myself.
I am moving the 16 inch pavers from the other site and am placing them down for the new kennels (Recycling) This is a good reason to use pavers and not pour concrete. Well 4 down and 4 more to go.

Our 11 yr old male picked the one he wants

Sent the wife out for zip ties to hang shade tarps , she came home with pretty color ties . LOL

Im in the dog house as normal.

That was quite the project to undertake, Doug. Good job. I really like the area you live in. I'm thinking that there are other potholes beyond those hills. I also had my eyes on that nice looking tractor sitting on the side of one of those pictures.
I see you also had to do some revisions because of the wind. I think your new kennel is looking very good and practical.
What are the outside dimensions of the enclosure? Will that tarp handle the wind?

Thanks Al

The kennels are 12 X 6, the tarps are from Cabelas they are perforated so water goes right through them .I have had them for about ten years now , they are getting a little ratty but still do the job.

We have pot holes everywhere out here and they are full of water this year. Had a pair of Red Heads in that one you see on Saturday.

My little red tractor is from Northern Supply, orderd it on a Monday and it was here that Wensday, perfect little work tractor

I like it. Great kennel set up. I noticed the double fencing (perimeter and then individual runs) is that so you can have access to each house from behind? to keep out predators?

My dream is to someday have a nice small pole building with guillotine doors leading into kennel runs. But your set up looks nice and efficient.

Great job!

What's with the tee shirt? Are you acclimatized to Montana that you wear those outside in the middle of winter now? Looking great Doug!

The kennels are inside the dogs 100 X 100 fenced in compound, I do have the area behind the dog houses fence off so they cant go behind them.

Thanks greg

Any day above 0 degrees is T-shirt weather. LOL

Doug, is that a Behner kennel? I was looking at some yesterday at a building supply store. It looked great to me.
By the way, did you pour footings for it all?

Hi Al

I bought these at Agway in NJ and when we moved I brought them with us.I dont know who made them.
Im in the process of ordering the clamps and fittings to make some more. The ones I have are welded but I dont have a welder so the clamp and fitting method will have to do. I looked at some panels last year out here and they are all made with fittings. The kennels are free standing on a pad made from 16"x16" patio pavers
