Square Stern Canoe Project

Thought you guys might like to see the current state of my project... This is a Selway Fisher 12' 6" motor canoe. I intend to both hunt and fish from it. not much will get done 'till it's warm again as I can't work epoxy in the cold and don't have a heated workspace. I did the layout and cut the panels and my pal Walter stitched and glued them together. This is gonna be a nice little boat to row and power with an electric trolling motor. The bulkheads as seen now won't remain - they get cut down and are seat supports when finished. Cheers, Alec

That's a beauty.

Thank you for sharing it with us. Please continue posting the progress pics.

Quality job.

Sweet looking boat. What will it weigh when completed? Should glide right across the water with little effort. Course with all the extra flotation sitting under it, I imagine it will sit rather high in the water as well. hehe ;>)

Thanks Fellas. Dave - they say it should be around 50 lbs., but I intend to add small side decks, so I suspect it'll add a few lbs. If I can keep it around 55 - 60 I should be able to car-top it or haul it in and out of the bed of my truck without too much trouble... as long as I don't get any older! Good hunting, Alec

Alec, I looked at your link on Bass flies. There just too good looking to fish with. They would look awfully good in my hat while going to church. :) ) by the way thats a neat boat.

I agree those flies are beautiful.

Nice boat stand. Keep us up to date on progress of the boat, it looks like you have a great start.

Thanks guys. Jay Anglin kindly sent me some beautiful feathers last year for which I promised to tie some flies for him - which I still haven't done. Jay, I haven't forgotten you - I'm sorry I've been such a tardy bum. I need to do a big dye bath and get 'em colored but haven't gotten to it yet. Thanks again guys - Alec
