Starting a BBSB Restoration

So the journey begins… I purchased a BBSB whose date I’m still trying to determine. It was a classic “barn find” having been suspended from the roof of the seller’s garage for the last 25-30 years. Dry as a bone, with no visible rot. It’s from the Perrine Boatworks, and beautifully made. With the advice, guidance and help of
Dave Diefenderfer, and Brian Garman, I’m starting a bow to stern restoration. I’ll update as things go along. So far I’ve built a dolly for rolling the boat around the garage, stripped the upper deck of all woodwork, pulled the rusty screws and nails and will begin on the floor in the next few days.

Good morning, Ken~

Good for you! It's always nice to see fine old vessels find their way to some who appreciates them.

I look forward to your progress.

This will be a fun restoration... but I would more accurately term it a refurbishment perhaps.... you will take some liberties as I do/did to make it your own and suit it to your hunting needs. Slow, steady, deliberate is the mantra. So were is that climate controlled work area? The garage at 100deg and high humidity is not doing it for me!

I've got a slight breeze, so it feels like 99. But I have time right now, so I'm making hay. I'm sanding the upper deck down to glass, and it looks pretty good. Renovation is a great way to put it.
Off to Ace for more sandpaper.

Love that boat Ken. Sean Sutton has a nice one, you are going to really like it when you're done.

Ken, nice lines on the boat. Did it have the sailing rigging? Are you putting a outboard for power?
Saw it on craigslist, but don't have a garage. Good luck, have fun...

Yes, Rich, this is the BBSB you sent me the info on.... If I did not have mine, I would have jumped on it. I had been helping Ken look for a sailing BBSB for a few months, so your lead was perfectly timed. He grabbed it the next day. I have too many irons in the fire already to ever try to justify doubling up on a boat I already have. No, Ken did not get the sail rig with it. None of the rig are present. I brought him the template I made when I built my dagger, along with the Field and Stream plans I had and used to model my rig from. There was a motor board, but not present when he got the hull. I think this summer his plan to is to tighten up the hull for hunting and build the sail rig in the future. I think we can talk him into getting it ready for Tuckerton for 2017!
