Striper fishing while ducking??

Haven't done it, but I've had them rolling in the decoys before...

You can plug them on the flats you'd most likely be hunting. White sluggos and danny plugs always work for me in the rivers.

Charlie, caught 5 on Monday while ducking. I just keep a few bomber + rebels ready and throw it out when I see the bass chasin bait. Fun and easy.........

No stripers here but the redfish will get into the decoys from time to time. I am tempted to put a line with a hook & shrimp on the back of a decoys and see what happens this year!
Just need to add a bigger weight to the decoy, maybe a brick.

nice Jode!! I dont know if I have room in the sneakbox for a pole. I can see it now, treble hooks in my waders, gloves ect..haha

We used to do that in Maine--but now we don't have any stripers left. I remember some incredible mornings in October watching stripers tear up out-migrating juvenile river herring.

A 4 piece fly rod, line and reel, and a small box of flies will fit just about anywhere.

Check out this video clip of stripers herding juvenile alewives in the fall in the mouth of a tributary to the Kennebec:

LOL, I have an old beater 7' rod that break down to two sections. Stores up under the bow..........but to quote Sutton, " I'm not here to fish, I'm here to kill ducks"

The bass get to running mossbunker up onto the flats, they are whacking them so hard it sounds like someone is throwing baseball in the water.........very fun when you find them.

good call on the two piece rod,, sounds like Sean got a little jealous cause he didnt have his own rod!

fishing probably attracts more ducks than sitting still anyways,,just like when its time to pick up the decoys!

Jeff, I used to work in Auburn, Me. and we would slay the stripers in the river, did it really all quit. What a shame if it did. Caught monsters blues to...

John, I work in Augusta, and used to routinely catch stripers before or after work in Augusta or Gardiner. I hooked and lost a single striper this year in about 6 days of fishing. I believe the number of fish is down substantially coast-wide, and many fewer fish make it around Cape Cod and into the Gulf of Maine.

Several tournaments up here have been cancelled, and at least one took place and not a single striper was caught.

I have done this back when I was in HS. A couple 3' of line with a crawler or minnow for bait. Kinda slow with the cold water here in IA tho. Also seemed that the fish & ducks worked the decoys at the same time! I once caught a carp bout 6-7# & I almost lost my decoy, I like to never catch up to it, it swam much faster than I could row! A heaver weight would be a GOOD idea!
