With temps around 18 today it was time to get the propane heater out so I could work in the garage.

Now that I have the center console out and see how much open floor there is I may just go with a side console.

Time to lay out the floor cut line.

Looking good Ed! Side console sure would keep it open.....I'm going to talk to a local fiberglass man and see about a custom side console job on my skiff.

Brian,

I'm going to check out this place. I like the console in the upper left.

Might be an option for you. The flats boat I was in with the flat steering helm had the helm molded in as part of the top cap of the boat. I'm not sure if you'll be able to bolt one in and have the stablity you'll want without legs. That's whay I leaning towards this design.

Thanks for the link. I found some pics of microskiffs that have some flat side consoles. I need to figure out my console height so I can still steer easy when standing. Not sure where I want the throttle controls placed exactly.....

Ed,

Did I miss something...when/Why did you move back up here? Is this permanent or temporary?

Either way, welcome back,

I like my side counsels for hunting, Center never made sense to me unless fishing was the deal.

Hi Eric,

I actually use my boats more for hunting than fishing. I liked the center console when I was in the bay/gulf for stability but I like the open floor much better for hunting.

We moved back last fall. I'm just not built for Florida and when my employer told me "sunshine" was part of my employment package I just couldn't find a bank that would use it for collateral. Really, not being able to sell the house here in IL it just got to the point we couldn't afford two households and my wifes employer started playing games with her income. It was time to come home.

Thanks for the welcome.
