That is one heckuva trip and Gus is one lucky kid that y'all do trips like that. I know that he will look back someday and realize how lucky he was.
I have a long ways to go until retirement but I too am ready to retire and move west....or at least be able to travel west for good chunks of the year cuz I really am a cold wuss. I need to find or create a job like my aunt has where it doesn't matter where she works as long as she has internet (she's a CPA for some big restaurants). Or a job where it doesn't matter if I am gone in the fall.
Trips like yours really make my wanderlust even worseespecially since my wanderlust has been curtailed greatly because of work.
Did y'all have any bear issues at all on your trip? I saw Gus' bear spray.
Thanks for sharing your trip with us...and CONGRATULATIONS on the elk!!!!!
Dani
I'm PM you on the litter, it hasn't been born yet, so we don't even know if there is a pup for us.
This trip didn't have a great wandering feel because we were kind of closed off from interaction with the pandemic. We are out to eat a grand total of 3 times: once inside an empty lodge, and twice at outside venues. For me I love the wilderness adventuring, but also the wandering around through even grocery stores checking out what is there, seeing the little sporting goods sections in the hardware store, etc... Hard to do if you are social distancing. We are for sure retiring to the west and are crafting the plan for the next phase.
The Wind Rivers have grizzly and are under a food storage order, but we didn't see a one or a bit of sign. We had spray and I had my glock, which add up to a lot of dead weight right there if there are no bears trying to eat you. We had a real close encounter with a black bear elk hunting.
