Spent this past sunday out on the marsh here on Long Island's South Shore with my friend Pat who just got back from his final deployment in the Marines.
Gathering up some of nature's camouflage for our southbay boats. Brought the new camera along a Nikon D810 for some quick shots/editing.
Just finished up the results and figured I would share the final results!

Our season is around the corner and we can't wait to get back at it. Best of luck to all this season! stay safe out there!

Good morning, Anthony~

You are making me homesick! What a great way to spend some time on the Bay.

Of course, I could not help but notice some of the details on your South Bay: taller spray shield/cowling, taller flapboards - and that cleat in the middle of the stern deck!

All the best,

SJS

What great shots! This is one of the reasons I enjoy this site so much. I get that chance to see how and where others hunt.

Anthony, I happened to anchor in on one shot in particular and that was the one with the dog. I was looking at its face and that expression. That retriever was going through some of those same feelings as the two of you.

Best of luck.
Al

Looks like a great day had by all. Please be sure to Thank your buddy for his service. I know it doesn't sound like much for all he and others in the service do for us but I truly appreciate his and others sacrifices.

Anthony, beautiful photos of the marsh. Your pup's expression of excitement is great.
Please thank Pat for his service.

Best - Paul

Wow! That's some great looking duck hunting country you got there. I wouldn't have guessed there was such pristine looking places to hunt on Long Island.

salt hey is propably on of the hardest things to harvest. nice job How about a couple pic dressed up

Outstanding pictures!!!

If you don't mind me asking: Why do people wear the white rubber boot... stupid question I'm sure, but i see them wear them on all those shows like Swamp People, etc.. and i have no clue as to why.. Thanks VIc

I can't believe how long the grass out east. I get mine as far west as you can go and it is short.
Great photos

Thank You All,

Victor honestly the only reason why he's wearing white boots is because one of his got caught on a dock nail while he was getting into the boat that afternoon ha! But they give us some room to walk in the marsh as the water depth is deeper in other areas.

Always jealous of how long the salt hay is on long island. It must be killing you guys to have to wait until the end of November to get out. Even though it was 70 and sunny yesterday it was still nice to play hooky and get out before our week and a half break here in NJ.

Your boat looks great
Tell us more about your boat, not many people tie off the flap rail blocks. Did you re do your rails and flap boards? Is the paint coming off or did you not paint the rails.

Bill,

Thank You!

This is a 1997 South Bay Boat built in Sayville, NY.

I purchased it in 2006 from the original owner not too far from my town here in Amityville. When I received the boat I reinforced the floor using (3) 2x6 Boards glassed into the original ribs and kept it similar to the original style which worked successfully for many years. In 2014 I totally re-did the entire boat adding a custom decoy storage layout for the cockpit, repainted with Parker duck drab, instaled all-new oak grass rails, rebuilt a new larger thicker transom, new fuel lines, new rub-rail and cleats. I also reinforced the original flap boards as well just due to the weight of the grass during winter. I usually hunt with a dog and with her constantly peeking out of the front spray shield I decided to temporarily make it higher by adding an extra 5" to the original shield itself.

I have been very satisfied with the boat, especially in it's manuverability around our bay here on LI.

I chose not to paint the rails, but applied a coat of lacquer to help keep that original look.

Hides Great in The Marsh As Well!

Good morning, Victor~

As far as I know, the white color is to minimize heat. Wearing the traditional black/brown/olive rubber footgear on an August deck gets pretty uncomfortable!

All the best,

SJS

Good morning, Anthony~

Bill Ferraro has ordered (!) me to look at your custom decoy storage in that South Bay. Got any photos to share?

All the best,

SJS
