Sunday Hunting

We may be in the heart of the "Bible Belt" but that has never had an effect on Sunday hunting. I'm sure there is more than one preacher here that gets in the tree stand for an hour or two before 10:00 service!

Where I grew up in Pennsylvania, Sunday hunting is still not allowed. Ridiculuous in my opinion.

here in FL, as long as the season is open, you can hunt, regardless of day.

I went to college in a "dry" county in Georgia. When you crossed the county line into an adjacent wet county there would be several liquor stores out in the middle of nowhere. Everyone called them "Baptist pharmacies."

Recently OK in SC but a few years back the good ol' blue laws banned almost everything on Sunday.

Joe, sunday hunting is legal on private land for all species of game. The only exception that I read in the book is deer hunting on sunday is prohibited on all WMA lands. I don't hunt on sundays because I'm in church and enjoying the other time with my family. If I am on a trip or away from home I have and probably will again. "Arise peter, Kill and eat" said the Lord.

Like Harker said, parts if not all of Michigan was closed to Sunday hunting..except waterfowling on federal & connecting waters of Lake St. Clair (yup, we share the lake with Canada........eh). Not sure how long ago, but we finally eliminated that restriction.

What's with the East coast states not allowing hunting on Sunday?!

Moved from Michigan, where Sunday hunting is allowed, to Pennsylvania, where it is NOT. It stinks for those of us that work through the week and only get to hunt one day!!!

Come 'on Pennsylvanians, let's get it changed to allow hunting on Sunday...

It is a crazy mixed bag of old blue laws that cover the east. Example #1, you can't shoot deer on a WMA land on Sunday but, you can go down to the beach and get a stiff drink after church. You can't buy it out of stores but you can go to the bars????? What the hay????? That said, what the worlds difference does it make what piece of dirt it stands on? That is the only restriction on sunday hunting I can find for South Carolina. Go figure.

Leslie, yes I know that Sunday hunting is only restricted to deer on WMAs.I was mearly stating, that at one time it was banned for all hunting.I don't remember the year cause
I wasn't hunting the first 25 years I lived in SC.:^)

WOW!

What a great question!

I lived in Wisconsin for 25 years before moving back to NC. In WI Sunday hunting was certainly legal and all of us hunters took advantage of it......Many hunters work shift work or have other responsibilities not allowing them to hunt during the week. Thus, they lose half of their weekends by not being able to hunt on Sunday....!

Now, I am back in NC (I am the Winston-Salem Area DU Chairman) and sorely miss being able to hunt on Sunday as the Bible Toters are still running strong down here and will not let go of the strangle hold they have on the legislature and the WRC.

The WRC and the legislature haven't figured out yet that hunting is an activity that is done with friends and family and takes longer than an hour or so, on Sunday.......so it is really family time for the whole day and more often than not, at nite, too.

We would gain hunters and have a lot more enjoyment from hunting in NC if we could hunt on Sundays....!! The WRC and the legislature need to learn we generate considerable revenue for them and the state's economy and would generate a whole lot more if we could hunt throughout the week.

My apologies to all for running off this way, it just happens to be one of my pet peeves.

Hope you all have a great season and if you are able to hunt on Sunday, make the best of it!

It's a huge pet peeve of mine too. My hunting days are cut completely in half because of some stupid blue law that dates back 150 years....Not to mention the revenue opportunities that the state misses out on because hunters wont make weekend trips here. My property taxes and income taxes are some of the highest in the nation because of stupid laws like this...and I only get to hunt for half the weekend. Oh well.

Pretty sure I just convinced myself to move!

Sorry to vent.

Shawn

I remember reading that some states and provinces had those archaic blue laws that didn't allow Sunday hunting. Hard for some people to realize that the 1800's have been over for a few years.

Full weekends over here in Washington.

I never thought much of it. I guess that I assumed that hunting on Sundays was banned nationwide. Now that I know that It's only a few eastern states that ban it I'm getting upset. This really sucks. Taxes in Jersey are the highest in the nation and I can't hunt on Sundays. This really sucks!!!
