I do have a Herters brant decoy that is the 81 size. That is about the size I am thinking. I believe it is the size Zach Taylor talks about in his book. I could just go with the Herters and put a proper size head on them, but that might be too easy. The off season is quite long.

I have considered life size swan decoys, but do they scare geese?

Goose body and the MAGNUM Herters duck head...definatley worked for him and I can remember being 14 and wanting nothing more in the World than to have a rig like his and hunt where he was hunting.....

Never got the decoys but have hunted where he hunted and out of the boats he talked about, hunted out of and designed, plus others that he never talked about.....him and a writer who was a NJ who Game Warden and wrote incredible stories about Black Ducks, Barnegats and the now lost duck shacks in the Jersy marsh, whose name sadly escpes me, pretty much introduced me to hunting in other than aluminum jon boats......

I don't know about scaring Geese but a Swan decoys are KILLER for attracting Cans and Wigeon if they are using the same areas, just like Brant are better Pintail decoys that Pintail decoys...if you are thinking about Swans think about a life sized (3) bird Y board.....you'll be pleased....

I just checked Taylor's book. Page 191 says he used both 81's (19") and 92's (21") goose bodies with black mallard heads. That is good enough testimony for me. I will need to try some next season with some swans.

If the mallards are 19-21" How big should a swan be?
