Taxidermy Displays-Coffee or end tables

Wondering if any of you have built your own displays for displaying taxidermy work. I am looking to build either an end table or coffee table display with a glass top. I have found models online but to save some cash and because I like to do things myself I would prefer to build one. Just looking for other examples that some may have bought or used besides the basics that I find on a google search.

Also wondering if I can skimp a bit and use plexiglass for the sides and real glass for the top, from what I can tell buying custom cut pieces of glass is not cheap but I can cut plexi to size and it is readily available.

A work of caution.... while an enclosure sounds like a good idea, protection from dust, pets, and fingers... be very careful to locate it where it will not get any sunlight or provide significant ventilation. A mount will not last long in a hot box.

Dave thanks for the reminder. Any tips on whether to completely seal the glass to the to our whether to just set the glass on are ideas i'm still toying with

If you were thinking real water, that is a bad idea too.

No just fake rocks. Just looking to do something different than bird on wall

Gus and I had a nice afternoon collecting sea shells (it was 50 and calm - nice) - we can spare some if you need any, not a single damn starfish though we can't find any. I even saved the life of some stranded oysters that were stuck above the high tide line line by throwing them back into the water.

I may hit you up for some of those. Matt and I got a few but probably not enough. Ahh yes stranded oysters, I believe I saved a few of those while I was there ;)

If you are seriuos let me know. We can get whatever you want.

Last time I bought a piece of plexiglass it was pretty spendy. I'm not sure it's any less expensive than regular glass. Check with Lowe's or Home Depot near you. They usually have a glass cutting station and will cut to size for you. If you plan on a glass top, I would consult a glass shop for something relatively impact resistant.

Hey guys, don't post much here but I operate a waterfowl taxidermy business so I will give you my two cents. If a bird is mounted correctly, it will last in glass forever regardless of normal temps. I must agree sunlight is a killer. It's more the uv damage then the heat. I build my display cases with 3/16 glass minimum. For a table type case 1/4 minimum would be called for. I can't post pics, but you can get some ideas from my website gallery at www.waterfowlcreations.net. If you have any further questions on how to build one or create the habitat, feel free to email me or PM.
