Where can a guy find mahogany in 12 foot ?
I have talked with bankes and they have a mylar
is this in the same line as the starboard? would a marine plywood work as well?
I would use Azek decking. It is composite decking that is all plastic. You can get it in "cedar" color through, works bettter than wood, and cost around $30 for a 16ft length if I remeber correctly.
When I had my '90 Classic, I replaced with pvc piping and clips. I have since found another material that would be a real good alternative. Buy Snowmobile suspension glide rails "hyfac" made from UHMW from www.DennisKirk.com. Then buy 1" by 1/2" or 1" by 1" UHMW from Mcmaster Carr.
Cut the 1x1 or 1x1/2 in blocks to use as risers and then mount the uhmw rails to the blocks. You could get enough of the 1x1 for about 10 bucks and then each of the 52" lengths of hyfac is about 12 bucks a section. All in black and easy to work with.
The customer service I had dealings with from Arthur Armstrong in KY, which I think is the same company as TDB, was terrible. You can try them, but it was a complete waste of time for me. Good luck.
you might try the treated5/8th's deck boards from lows supply store, look for the ones that are partialy bowed thats what a friend of mine did and it's still good.
Bankes gave me a quote of $75 per 8 foot section plus shipping. That times two if you want to do both sides If I had the skills and machinery, I'd do what Dave D. said.
Dave care to earn some room and board for your next trip to Jersey for DuckBoats II Joisey Style? I'd like to put some grass rails on my boat.
Check with a better lumber yard, Home Depot and Lowes at least by me do not carry the same quality. IMO you should only use the material that is all plastic. Stay away from the sawdust/plastic stuff. Since it will be cut and routed, it will expose the interior and quickly deteriorate. Azek is just one brand, there are many others out there now.
