TDB 14 owners I would love to see some photos of your boat grassed up as well as the interior of the boat, thanks!

Here's a shot of mine from earlier this season. I grassed it using the Mojo Ghillie Weed bundles (mainly because I had it) which is a synthetic mutli-color grass attached with zip ties. Now that all the marsh grass is dead, I throw a woven palm mat on the bow to cover the bow and forward section of the blind.

I don't have any shots of the interior, I haven't done a lot customizing yet other than mounting the fire extinguisher. I'm thinking about adding an electrical system but haven't convinced myself of the need.

I wish I still had it.

Phil, you gun yours with no blind on it? Do you sit right on the floor or have a low seat of some sort? Can you do that with two guys or is it a one man deal that way? Awesome grass job....I'm lazy and just waste money on the woven mats.

Jim, I actually have woven mats as a base layer, then I put the Prairie Cordgrass over it. then black and brown spray paint. Mine is set up as a 1 man boat... I have a sheet of 5/8" plywood on hinges covering the front 54" of the cockpit. I think having a big open cockpit is an easy way to flare birds. I have a verticle wall across the cockpit at about 40" from the front. This keeps the 5 doz texas rigged duck decoys and the 6 floating honkers from sliding all over the place. Kodi sits/lays on the plywood (covered with grass)when hunting... I have sat on the floor... and on a throwable PFD...as well as on a 5 gallon bucket...I am completely invisable when on the floor... I sometimes worry that when I am on the bucket I stickout to much... waist to head... but birds really don't seem to mind. I lean over, then shoot when they are feet down... I think high blinds/comfortable blinds are just so hard to hide.....

Phil has got a point about the higher blind. Here in Wisconsin with the 50% cover rule,if your not low your giving up a lot of good spots, that higher boats could not not hunt . So this year we hunted with our blinds right on the gunwales , and what a difference . Flaring was almost nonexistent . But comfort sucked , but because of all the increase in action it was worth it. After seeing phil,s i think any higher than that and the boat will start to lose it,s effectiveness .So keep it low

Pat are you saying you can only cover 50% of your boat? Never heard of this, can you explain? Thanks.

They have some sort of rules in Wisconsin regarding the height of your blind in regards to the surrounding cover, there was a previous post on here about it a few months ago... if you search the posts you can probably find it.

The vegatation behind your boat, that you are using for cover, has to be tall enough to cover/conceal 50% of your boat/blind. So the taller your blind is the taller the vegatation has to be to be legal (in a nut shell).

Pat, Just curious... but what is the reasoning behind that law? If we had that law on some of the salt marshes here in NY you wouldn't be able to hunt in duckboats at all. Many times your boat is twice as tall as the surrounding marsh grass or hay...

That is a real good question. I dont think there is a good legitimate answer. Theres supposed to be no open water hunting besides like 3 bodies of water in WI. (They are talking about allowing more bodies of water next year, 1000 acre+ lakes). The 50% rule falls under the catagory. So if you can't be at least covered up 50% you are "open water" hunting in the eyes of the DNR. I think it more has to do with the fact that most of WI bodies of water are surrounded by private land, all water ways are public though. I believe that the rich land owners lobbied to try keep other hunters away from their shore line. Thats just my opinion on it. Do I have much for facts to go with it, not real, just some talk but it make sense to me.

The worst part is 50% should be a hard line but each CO treats it differently. Find the thread on it from a couple months ago, we have some screwed up laws. Heres one of them but there was another more detailed one as well.
