TDB Gas Line Question?

I have a 13ft Marsh Hawk duckboat which is similar in design to a TDB as it is fiberglass construction and has a cockpit area which does not extend back to the stern/outboard motor.
Since the cockpit does not go back to the stern, the gas line must go from the outboard, across the stern deck then down into the cockpit and back to the gas tank....
I am thinking of drilling a hole in the stern deck and running the gas line down through that hole to avoid any problems with the line getting pinched at the cockpit edge.

Has anyone had any experience running a gas line down through the deck of a fiberglass boat, and if so... is there any trim hardware made to waterproof the outside of the hole?

Any ideas, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have an idea of what I want to do, but maybe someone has a better idea than I do...

Cut Hole w/hole saw as far up to cowling on cock pit as you can go w/out hitting lid, stick piece of pvc through glue/chalk around almost flush pvc. run your gas and battery line w/crinkle split wire protector, (what ever it's called) around through hole to motor. Been done on mine couple years, never had a problem with water coming. And if water line gets that high you got bigger problems, more water comes off dog than through hole. If that makes sense? If not i could send e-mail pics if you want? Oh, and run gas line to bow and put tank there it really helps when solo hunting.

Gene pretty well nailed it. I used a commercial made rubber boot on the outside of the hull. I also ran my battery cables (electric start) and control cable through the boot as well. One warning if you put the tank in the bow. Use a stiff enough fuel line. In the summer mine would collapse the fuel line because it was such a long run and the hose was soft when warm.

Sounds like it would work, however if either of you could supply photos I would appreciate it.... you can email them to cgeminski@shvillagephoto.com

Thanks for the advice, I will route my electric start cables through there as well. I hope to put the gas tank in the bow, however locally West Marine only carries an 8ft gas line. Still looking for something about 14ft....

I looked through my pics here at work, no good ones. I'll see what I can do at home later.

2 buddies shoot out of TDB's and they did exactly what you said, drill a hole drop the line down and run to the tank.
Make sure you protect the fuel line going through the deck with a larger diameter hose around it so it doesn't chafe through.

Here is a picture of what I did.

Phil... that's EXACTLY what I am looking for! Where did you get that black plastic or rubber fitting you have around the hole?

Do you know what they call that part? Manufacturer? I searched online and found things called "rubber hole grommets" which should work, but I like the one you have more because it rises above the deck a few inches instead of being flush...

Awesome, thanks!
I just found one at West Marine that should work well. It is 3 inches in diameter and has a tie wrap strap at the top to help seal out water....

Sugestion, There is an item made called bulkhead fitting, made by PERKO Co Designed to go threw Decks or bulkheads. The gas line would attach At each end Under Deck as well as above deck. Any good marine supply handle them. Very simple conection .Waterproff as well.

Phil already got you set up but here is what I used and I think it came from West Marine. On a TDB you have to work around the floatation compartments, that's why mine is located where it is. The hole below it is a through hull hole for the bilge pump.

Gene... I got the same motor well boot from West Marine, I also got some 1inch corrugated plastic tubing which is split the entire length. I slid that over my gas & electic start lines and then into the motor well boot. A plastic zip tie at the motor end and it made the whole look of my stern "more clean" and protected those wires from chaffing as well.
