TDB Question

Can someone tell me what length motor would fit on a tdb/wrangler? Long or short shaft? And what hp is needed to get it up on plane loaded?

Thanks,

Frank

You'll have to measure the transom. Most run a short shaft I think. Mine has a long shaft on it. TDB did provide both transoms, atleast on the TDB14 classic. I run a 25 (with remote controls) but I think most run a 15, the max rating is 15hp on a 14 classic. I've seen them plane with the 15hp.

Frank, I have a 93 TDB Classic. I run a 15 Johnson short shaft. It works fine for me. I used to hunt 2 guys and a dog. It took a while to plane loaded. A tad more hp would be nice. I now hunt alone or one other person. No dog. The 15 does a good job. Proper prop pitch is important.

Thanks Guys,
With luck I'll be picking one up this weekend sans motor. Sounds like my little 9.9 will at least be able to push me around for the remaining three weeks.
Can you really change carbs on a 9.9 evinrude and make it a 15 or is that an old wives tale?

Frank

Depends on what year. Sometimes you have to bore out the intake manifold hole to fit the bigger venturi opening. Some even had a restrictor plate between the carb and manifold but I don't thing those were US motors.

I've had two 14' models in the past and now I just have a TDB17. The 14' would get on plane for me with a 15hp but I had to use a tiller extension, motorcycle battery and a stingray Jr. My other 14' had an 18hp motor. BIG DIFFERENCE. It didn't push water, it actually got up on plane fast. I would just keep the weight down and stick with a 2 stroke motor and go with a larger horsepower. Just my two cents worth....
