Texas Rig Anchor Molds

Thomas and friends want to re-rig about 6 dozen decoys. I have several hundred pounds of lead and Texas rig anchors are expensive, so we want to pour our own. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good 4 ounce mold? A friend bought one but the passage way for the line was too small and they were a big headache. I'd like to find a proven mold so the boys can pour all they need. Thanks.

I have an 8oz mold and had the same issue with the hole being to small for the line. I used a 8 inch drill bit 1/8" size to open up the mold and then use a 1/8" copper welding rod for the spacer. Works great now for #60 braided line.

Model- DOIT-3309
3 CAVITY 4 OZ, 5 OZ, 6 OZ MUSHROOM ANCHOR MOLD

I bought one of these and the 4oz anchor seems about right. Maybe not for Texas Rigs though.

Eric,
Don't have an answer on Texas rig, but I have the Do-It 4-5-6 mushroom, as well the J-hook mold if you want to borrow them.

Might want to think about what type of texas rig system you want to deploy. The sliding egg weights look nice but I had issue with them in cold weather. 1. The holes would freeze making the sliding part difficult and 2. The way in which the egg weights move means your hands will get wet, and thus cold, when trying to hook the loop onto the Caribiner.

I put mushroom weights on one end and ran the cord through a swivel attached to the decoy. This way when I pick up the decoy the weight comes up against it and the loop to hook onto the caribiner is up against the decoy. No need to get your hands wet this way. Hope this makes sense.

Appreciate the help. I ordered a 4 ounce mold off ebay and the boys will rig them like Mark suggested where the line slides through a swivel and the anchor is fixed to one end.

Anchor making party at the shop last night. The Do-It mold worked well. Thomas and his hunting partners made about 100 anchors and barely dented my lead supply. I can see more molding parties in the future. Next up is a crimping party.
