Recently, I took the trip down to Maryland May of this year to pickup a "new to me" 2000 TDB SeaClass 14'. After hunting for one at a reasonable rate these days the deal finally came through on a Maine built and I sold my original 1992 TDB 14' Classic purchased from a passed member here long ago in 2014 to another hunter on Long Island for continued years of enjoyment. My plan was to refurb the new purchase fix some odd's & ends the past 23 years have had on her and get back into the 2023 season! After picking up the boat it was clear she was in very good shape and most of the work would be add-on's & cosmetics... the owner who worked on a Military base in Aberdeen, MD used the boat solely for that region and garage kept with all the manuals, tune up kits and original brochures intact!.. a true treasure find these days.
My first step was to change out the cleats & hardware to stainless, upgrade the ole' 25 Johnson and it's original power lift and modify the fuel system to a deck fill. I also wanted to condense the electrical & fuel system to the stern as I would keep some weight up at the bow with gear, anchors decoys chairs etc..
After many hours of labor I added a wide rage of accessories to the boat including Garmin GPS / Fishfinder, Spud Pole Mounts, Additional Transom Drain, Underwater LED's! (That can be removed with a simple unscrew from the drain-plug during ice times!) Under gunnel lights, changed out the original fuse panel with a new one including a Bluetooth controller & voltage regulator so I can power some accessories remotely. Added a 13" LED Light bar, and also had a custom CNC transom mount made for a nice TDB nostalgic touch!
After speaking with the Olsen family over at TDB and showing them the boat, a decision was made to replace some of the interior canvas and the exterior grass rails. Taking the trip up to East Dennis MA was a great time, The new TDB has a fantastic operation with multiple scattered boats both new / old ready for the season's action. The building process has also come a long way with the use of the latest technologies and some of the strongest materials for a glass boat. Tom looked over some of the GelCoat and we decided to redo the exterior at this time as well, since the majority of the hardware would be removed in replacement of the rails.
Here's a few photos of the progress so far! I plan on picking the boat up end of this week and continue some of the "finishing touches". Have a few more ideas in-mind until she's the way I want it. The boat will be on display next weekend at the TDB booth in Tuckerton, NJ! Swing on by & say hello!
