The boat still floats

Ice went out for good around here this week, with the last local pond clearing yesterday. And it hit 60 today, so I took the afternoon off and took my 14 ft aluminum boat out for a test run.

I've got some work to do on trailer lights, but the Yamaha 15 hp 2 stroke started on the second pull, and the Tohatsu 3.5 hp kicker I use for trolling and on my sculling boat started on the first.

Lots of other folks were out doing the same thing, and a few fishermen trolling the shoreline for brown trout. I think spring is finally sprung. Even got a little sunburn.

Going to hit a nearby lake for some early morning landlocked salmon fishing before family obligations for Easter weekend kick in.

Not interested at all in selling. It's been super reliable, and its perfect for a 14 foot tin boat. I am the third and last owner for this one. And the guy who sold it to me and replaced it with a 4 stroke 20 still asks if I might want to sell it back.

hey Jeff, good to hear your finaly on your way to spring.....

our ice went out on the 10th of april at ma &pa`s...

i was back to deer camp this week in that last rain storm that brought 6 in ,snow to NB and Pei ,Daisy and i were back planting stuff for the deer.. spent 120 $ on seeds,,,,, some day some one will walk in there and say wholy crap !!Ive found if ya spread right after a frost has melted the fluff on the surface sucks the seeds in when the rain hits them,, trying mossy oak seeds 2 bags in one section and 10lbs of tripple mix red white clovers and timothy.. for the second section..

prob about 150 feet long and 30 feet wide..on a skidder path thru a select hardwood cutover...

I then went to the camp and spent half a day getting rid of a huge mouse hotel 10 snow shovels full of crap....seeds and nest...bucket trap has been reset....

Ive been training a few pheasants to pick and grin in my garden lol i hope they hang around for the slugs.....grrrrrrrr....

all the best

So much for spring . . . .

The forecast wasn't too bad, but I should have known it was off when I got up and it was 26*F. I was on the water by about 6:15, and the first 2 hours weren't bad. Not a fish to be seen by me or any of the other 5 or 6 boats I saw out, but it was calm, and I saw my first loon of the season, watched the eagles sitting on a next, and got dive bombed by ravens. I was trolling right on shore, and flushed a pair each of blacks, mallards and woodies.

About 9 the wind picked up, and by 10 it was howling out of the east--straight at the launch. I pulled my lines and headed for the launch, and was in big whitecaps before I got there. Fortunately two other guys hit the launch at the same time I did, because all of us would have had trouble loading our boats solo. The snow hit while we were pulling the second boat.

Since then, it's been alternating between rain and snow, and the temp is up to a balmy 36.

its howling here to jeff plus 12C 70 k plus..[so around 50 sumthin and 40 plus mph]
good to hear ya made it back to shore that weather is for ducking not fishin...

You must be on the warm side of the front. Wind died here mid afternoon--now it's an almost freezing drizzle.

I love spring.
