The bucket is getting full

Last week I posted my pic of my first sea duck. Little did I know that I was going to have a monumental day two days later.

In the same area with the assistance of a new great friend, I took a seven bird sea duck limit. I have never been able to shoot more than six birds a day, so this was quite a morning. I took some more Surf Scoters, but as a bonus killed my first OldSquaw and Common Scoter. Three new species of birds in one week, I was pleased.

The Commons came in as a pair, and after my friend missed, I took them both. I have not taken a double with two shots on decoying birds in a long time. A picture of my bag for the day below...

I met with the family for lunch- Wings and fries - My standard celebration meal.

With a belly full and some birds for the wall, I thought the day could not get any better. Then my three year old daughter said "daddy I want to go duck hunting"...

The family loaded up and we went out for the last hour after the two remaining birds I was allowed. My five year old son and daughter helped me deploy the big rig of six Bufflehead decoys we were to use. We erected the beavertail flip over blind and had some fun. My daughter kept watching for ducks through the dog door and my son was flagging and calling for birds out the top.

Despite their efforts, two drakes worked nicely and both rode home in the boat. My Daughter loved holding the beautiful birds and that night while drinking cocktails I couldnt decide which hunt was more special.

My Surf Scoter is going on the wall, as well as the two Commons. John Yenni has generously provided driftwood from the shore near where I was hunting. I dont have any ducks in my trophy room and will be proud to have these birds as the beginning of a new collection.

Thanks for reading, and thanks especially to John and Ryan from making that day possible!

While I can't speak for Ryan, for the part I had in it all- it was my pleasure! (although I wasn't much help on this particular "big" day)

I didn't get to see, until now the pics of the little ones. Those are precious!

Can't wait until next time.

Great hunt there Kevin. Congratulations. Great shells you guys found too

That was just a small portion of the shells we found. There is a spot out there that had hundreds of those shells on the beach. There are restrictions on the number you can take, and frankly we wouldn't know what to do with them all if we did take all we found. So a great many of them are still on the sand for the next group of beach bums.
