The Cost of Duck Hunting...

Pat I found myself staring at all that water that you have. Of course I was thinking what I could possibly do with that Bobcat down here.
Good luck to you when your teal season opens.

Brad/Al - Our teal habitat is perfect! Once the teal and shovelers get her, could be fun. Gotta love that mud... Pat

I've seen duck at the grocery store and I know some local guys selling domestic ducks to eat.

At those prices, the way I'm hunting and the quantity of ducks I eat, I'm definitely saving money hunting them!

that is some beautiful soil you have there!!! I'll trade you a pile of that for some our red clay in North AL that'll grow cotton. :)

Your analysis is wrong - duck meat is very cheap. Your only cost is the cost of the shell that kills the bird. All other expenses are part of your entertainment budget. It's like if you took the family to Disneyworld for a few days and spent a couple thousand on airfare, another thousand on the hotel, another grand on food and misc., and came home with one Mickey Mouse doll for each kid and assigning a value of $2,000 to each doll! It's all in the analysis :)

There's no price that can be put on the sunrises and sunsets. The preparation and anticipation of the hunt. We all love a well placed shot, but it's not why were there. It's the smell of the mud, wing beats. A flock of (name your favorite species) locked up and working your decoys.
If it were all about money we would be buying Peking Duck at our favorite restaurant.

I like Phil's response the best. The many things that are priceless when duck hunting...
  • Time with friends and family.
  • Watching the sunrise.
  • Ducks bowed up in decoys you made with your hands.
  • Watching your retriever retrieve.
  • Hunting with your kids.
  • Hunting with your dad.
  • Locking up a flock of mallards with a call you made.
  • Doubling on a pair of scaup you had no business shooting at.
  • Being covered in cans while in a layout boat.
  • Hunting from a boat you made or restored.
  • Working together as a team.
  • Eating a hot meal in a duck blind.
  • Others?

Taking a wave over the bow on your way to your spot.
an then
The smell of a hot cup of coffee when you get settled.
The people an four legged critters you meet along the way.
Phil

Kyle - We have tons of it...

That is one thing we do not have to purchase as well as an amazing amount of moist soil plants that go with it. God's perfect duck food...
