The start of a new flock

Well, for once i"m being smart and not waiting until the last minute to do something.

I haven't yet decided how many of these I will make, but I had enough scrap in the garage to make 8...they're gonna have stakes so that they can be set individually or on a y board, to work in the various places I hunt....

because of the size of the boards I had, I had to make most of them resters or feeders....i'm thinking I might get one more board (or if i'm lucky could find another board somewhere in the garage for scrap) and make a handfull more high and perhaps a few more low heads...we'll see....

but I painted one side of them today....will likely do the other side tomorrow....

They will make a great addition to my flock....

Teal season is in one more weekend....can't wait.....

So you have just one more week----Thank goodness you are young! I don't know if I could wait that long. I like what you are doing, Dani. Good luck to you. Hope you will have time to take a few pictures. Enjoy the moment and make the most of it.

weeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllll Yankees who have no experiece with any duck that isn't a single drab color often confuse them with Flamingos but they're not Flamingos....

Thanks Al-

I'm hoping these babies will draw in some birds and we have another day like this one:

What a fantastic day of hunting. Thanks so much for the picture. Yes, Dani, I will look forward to more pics like this for next week!

Cool silhouettes! My first Canada goose spread was 24 silo's I made out of luan. It's a blast bagging birds over your own decoys. Good luck with those colorful ducks.

Awesome Silos Dani...Good luck this year with the hunt...Post pictures of the hunt...I am certain you will take your quarry this year...

Regards,

Kristan

Lookn good Dani. I hope they bring many birds to ya. The whistlearound your neck, is used for a call or is just a dog whistle? Have a great yeardown there!

Those are really neat Dani, very nice job. Who carved the decoys in the picture? I like the style on those. I'd love to shoot some of those whistlers....man they are neat ducks.

Thanks y'all! I should be able to finish these babies up today...

Al-

I'm hoping for some woodduck and teal pictures next weekend as well. we get a 5 day season and then have to wait until the weekend prior to thanksgiving for regular season. I'm getting so excited though.

Dennis-

The whistle is used more to make noise than anything. It was given to me as a gift and since I don't have a dog I've nothing to blow it at...sooooooooo it works perfectly as a whistle when FWC checks me and my boat to make sure i have my safety gear. Besides, it's about the only "duck call" that I can blow without offending the marsh

Wiz-

hahahah you're the second person to mention that....some people use newspapers, I use charts. My dad is a pilot and aircraft mechanic and these charts are always available since they're "old" and expired...so he brings many home...

Bob-

Wish I could take the credit for how the stakes get attached to the decoy...a certain stumpdancer mentioned I should just use PVC and then when I showed my dad what I had done, he improved upon the design a bit so that it would be stronger...

Thanks again y'all!

I will DEFINITELY post pictures when I get to use them...

The Frond bird was carved by Clint Jeske....he posts occassionally...

The other bird was made by George Bell from Crisfield, VA

Well I finished the bulk of the painting...now there is not much more to do but wait til the birds are dry...then paint some eyes on and paint their "legs" and then make some stakes for them and the yboards for them...

I like em....

can't wait to use them....

Hey those turned out great! A lot of people under-estimate how effective silos can be. I'd love to try carving one of those guys from cedar.

Nice work!

Dani- Neat silos - thanks for sharing. One idea: replace the re bar with the rubber coated steel stakes available in the lawn and garden are of HD/Lowes. They will be sturdy enough and only a fraction of the weight.
