The teal opener

Carl,
Thanks for what you had to say. I'm glad that you have such good fishing. Your love for the outdoors is still intact.

I still vividly remember moving to Wisconsin after living in Alaska for 8 mind blowing years. I did adjust but boy, did it take a while. I can't believe how much I missed mountainous scenery. I guess in the back of my mind, I never forgot that because just prior to retirement, Bev and I moved to New Mexico. It is much like Alaska in more ways than just a few.

This picture my wife took of Habanero aka Habi and me on October 8th, 2012. Damn near ten years ago now. Heck I was but a mere kid of 71 when I think of it now. Now I'm an old phart! Habi was 7 months old then and had retrieved teal for me in our early season. What a dog she turned out to be. Oh, one thing that was foremost in my mind prior to moving down here in the Socorro, NM area, is this. When I was investigating this state and where I wanted to live, I asked 3 different life long residents of New Mexico why they liked living here. Within just a few words of one another when I asked them if it snowed down here they all said about the same thing. "Yes it does snow down here but I can't seem to remember if our last snow was three or four years ago." Lord, I fell in love with this area in an instant!

Greg it is always good to hear from you. Thanks for the info about New Jersey. Glat to know that you do get to see bwt and gwt at least once in a while.

I hope you have been lucky while hunting rail. Continued success, Greg.

I'm sorry to hear that your season is so slow. It has to be tough not to see birds when you are blessed with water. I sure hope you start seeing more birds.

Here if we don't get rain, then that is called a real slow season when trying to hunt ducks. Kind of like last year, for me anyway.

I am glad you enjoyed this, Dave. Here is Habi when she was almost 9 months old. I was set up on one of my favorite spots on the Rio Grande. Fortunately, it was blessed with water back on November 5th of 2012. I happened to have taken a drake widgeon, which is my all time favorite duck to shoot, and took some pictures of Habi retrieving it.
