The true king of upland birds

Tod-

don't worry about it, I wasn't offended. If i came across that way then my apolgies. I've gotta figure out a way to open the fan up without holding it open....soooooo any ideas i'd be very open to suggestions...gotta be lightweight enough to tote around with me though in my pack...

These osceolas sure are pretty birds for sure. So neat watching them change from almost black to copper with just a slight turn in the sun.

I have a solution for perfect turkey fan spreading, but the unit I've used is heavy to carry, tough to train and expensive! I would not suggest you aquire one for just that purpose.

Dani~

Re spreading the fan in the field. I think a light piece of softwood (paint stirrer long enough ?) and 2 pushpins would work. And, you could probably just find a softwod twig for the same purpose. It sure is nice to get the photos before the feathers get a little beat up.

hahahahah Tod, I'll pass on the turkey fan spreader like that...but that's a cute picture with your son

Steve, that's an interesting idea....i'll have to play around with that....thanks for the idea

Dani- Primos makes a fan holder for attachment on their decoys. Not sure if it folds.

Congrats on your turkey.

Dani,

Congrats on your bird, nice write-up. How many birds are you allowed per year? Is this all one season or do they issue tags based on different season dates? Up here we have four seperate seasons.

How is your camper holding up since the roof overhaul you did? OK, I hope. No snakes yet?

Great Story and Aren't they the most beautiful birds! And tasty, too.

Thanks for sharing the experience with us!

Thanks Andy-

i'll have to check that out. perhaps Gander Mountain has one here that I can mess around with

Dave-

I'm allowed two turkeys per year during the spring season, two during the fall season. Here you buy a turkey stamp and that entitles you to hunt turkey all year long.

Actually I did see a snake the first weekend. A pretty little garter snake in the woods, an electric blue-greenish color striped one. Neat little guy. Then last weekend I saw a BIG and FAT banded water snake during my float trip as well as several gators.

The camper is doing great. No mold issues since the roof overhaul. It's doing quite fantastically and I'm quite happy with how well it works for me.
