There any golfers here?

Whos watching the masters this weekend? I picked the game back up last year after putting them away at 18 years old, with multiple scholarship offers, knowing I wanted to chase the adventures outdoors (mostly waterfowl) vs being on a golf course through my 20's. I never intended to ever pick them back up until some smooth talkers talked about how good they were in the hospital I work for. My inner child and competitor couldnt bear to listen to them, with many errors in their talking, I kind of knew they were probably not as good as they said they were. But I dug the old clubs up, and played all last summer. Surprisingly, was having some back pain, and it solved all of that. I was shocked, and basically said I would continue to play in off season to just keep the back twisting and limber... apparently that was the issue. By the time I put them away for the waterfowl season, i was back shooting in the high 70's for my scores. Made a few changes for this off season, will play my first round in a week or so as I found my contact again (went ahead and invest in new technology) and learned to play these clubs. Wondering if there are only boat builders here or if others smack the little white devil around a little and curse on the green grass. If no replies, delete the thread lol.
 
Gave it up a couple decades ago - with kids I wasn't willing to commit several hours multiple times per week to get consistent, and I'm too self-competitive to play half-ass. Haven't missed it a bit. My wife started to play a few years ago and wanted me to start back - but it just isn't a game I enjoy enough to make the time commitment (or, alternatively, to suffer ineptitude). I enjoy watching the Masters, though. Have been fortunate to go see a couple rounds there, what a spectacular place. Being in those grounds provided the only moments I considered playing again - but then I realized any other course would feel like a goat farm in comparison.
 
I love to play, but as I've gotten older my back objects. Now I can only play once in a while, requiring several days of ibuprofen therapy. This a penalty caused by my inability to say no to the little voice in my head saying "if 80% goes that far, how far will 100% fly?". :)

I had this mindset as long as I was away, never thought I would play the game again. Sometimes I still dont really want to play it, but there is something about how good my back feels after hitting the range for an hour or playing 18 once a week. Seems insane as most have back issues from the game, but I think im so straight backed working in the hospital (12 hours a day) that when I rotate it for a few hours, I feel alive again. Its a terrible sport though, you should stay away lol.

Oh if you could get to 100%... at least another 25 yards per club! Ill say this.... id rather have that issue than a hangover feeling from drinking. I think i can relate to your misery with booze. I swear ill never drink the stuff ever again the next morning. Somehow every so often I find myself a little stumbly, more witty, and smiling just a little more. Its obvious your internal fire is still lit, but you got some Tiger woods syndrome it seems. We all get there at some point with anything we do. Keep doing it as long as you can.

Me too! Mee too...... and so here is the reason I really started this thread. I mean its cool to hear people talk about golf, and Im definitely kind of excited to be playing it all again. Its not hard for me to say no to it though, but I am in love with how good I feel the next day after playing, so I think thats the addictive part. Havent even played a round, jus spent a couple hours on my days off on the range before getting down in the shop and playing with decoys. Just starts my day off right and I feel good going into my work week. So we can talk golf as long as this thread wants to keep going. Clubs, swings, whatever.... it doesnt hurt my feelings in the slightest. I do really love the game, its just not my true love. Waterfowl will always hold that spot. Golf is like my side piece that I see very often for a longer period of time in the year.

But the reason I started this thread was the ol JT, Max Homa caddie situation. Best part is they are paired together right now on the Par 3 contest. JT says his caddie back is hurt, Max homa was blind sided by his caddie leaving, all of a sudden (in the span of a couple days) Homa's old caddie is carrying JT's bag now? Cmon... coincidental or you think JT has been whispering sweet nothing into the caddie ear to come be his caddie this week for the masters or for some time even after the masters?

You have to play and understand all the skill set behind it to enjoy watching it. I feel the same about fishing. Wasnt until I started actual bass fishing and delving into bass tournaments before I could watch it. But since FFS is the only way pros catch fish, its gotten so boring to watch. Hell couldnt even hardly watch the bass master classic this year due to streaming issues or a commercial every 2 minutes or the "halftime"... so ridiculous. But I agree, watching golf can be torture if you dont truly understand or enjoy the game. I stare a lot at how pros swing the clubs. I nickname a lot of them too. Spieth is twitch.... his thumbs have got to be so sore by the end of 18 with how much they dance at his address before hitting the golf ball. Poor guy has developed quite the OCD around the game as time has gone on.

Eh, the caddie thing on tour has always been kind of incestuous. Not a big surprise. There are caddies who've looped for multiple top players.

Thinking about it a bit more, if I was invited I'd probably hire a club caddie the first time. Nothing beats local knowledge in golf, and at Augusta it seems to be the trump card which allows older, experienced players to compete there.

I agree with this. But as much as they change courses week to week, I think i would kick around the idea of picking a caddie who could gobble up a ton of info from their own prep work, took good notes and was on their game week after week. The technology they have in these courses, they can change them so fast it seems. Not sure how much a club caddie has an edge anymore.

Making a small line with the underscore key is so hard on a computer screen. We see why you dont play golf now. Getting a comma and underscore mixed up on the keyboard...... welll......... Golf is hard enough, it would be so much harder for you :LOL:

I'm in. Disclaimer; I use hybrid hand-me-down clubs. I am considering buying some real irons, but these have done me no harm these last several years so I may just keep them forever. :ROFLMAO:

Hey... fred couples (one of the greatest of all time) is even up to 7 woods/hybrids in his bag today. If it works, it works. Its been said, sometimes it aint about the arrow, its more about the indian.

No sense buying a new set if the old ones are adequate. Although I am a hypocrite, since I can't resist a new set of golf clubs. Always a new toy. The garage was littered with old clubs a couple years ago. I was ordered to do a cleanup so I gave some sets away to kids, and tossed a few other sets in the dumpster to teach them a lesson because they hit too many balls in the water. ;)
