Kind of you to think of the old geezers. Truthfully, I'm not an old geezer, yet... I just act like one.
So just Dave then.

Almost up to as many posts as me on this thread. Im the creator, you're the one who says it would be the death of the forum.... whos playing devils advocate now?So just Dave then.
This is cool. im finding, im not finding many that want to play with me as much. So slowly im not playing as much and just putting myself through the motions on the range. I do like to test the skills and i like playing more than just hitting, but its always a crap shoot when you show up to fill in tee time as a single. Nothing wrong with bogey golf if its all for fun and giggles. Not even sure why I try and play as good as i do. Thats the issue I have with my own self. My best tournament card I turned in was a 67 for a hs tournament. I shot many 70-72 sanctioned tournament scores. I had my fair share of blow up rounds too, but those were 79-82 rounds. I think once that good at some point, its hard to be ok mentally with shooting in mid 80's-90's again. The competitive drive always wants to get back to how good I once was.I played lots of golf from when I was teenager to when I had children. Gave it up for 25 yrs or so until my son and his wife moved back to my hometown 2 yrs ago and told me that I needed to buy a set of clubs and start playing golf with him. I play to mostly to get exercise as I/we typically walk instead of using a cart. Doesnt hurt that their is a course 2 blocks from my office and we can sneak 9 holes in pretty much any day over lunch. I probably play 3 to 4 times a week and consider myself a bogey golfer.

Jk dude... feel like you and i see eye to eye on a TON of things. FYI, I know you're secretly watching, Scottie scheffler is taking the first tee. Min woo is right in front off to a terrible start. HERE WE FREAKING GO!

I always take those "OK Boomer" remarks, as high praise and admiration. I rather enjoy giving others something to aspire to.You are going to hurt Dave and Henry's feelings with that kind of talk.
I really like scheffler. Like him more after everything last year and when i watched his interview. I mean the guy was stretching in a jail cell getting ready for the masters after that whole debacle. What hit home with me was when they were doing the interview and he said, even though i play golf, i still have to do my chores at home for the wife. Down to earth, seems like a really good dude, and for someone to accept that they have a bad attitude and work on that in order to get one of the best caddies to accept a position with him... i just like his character to be number 1 in the world. I root for him to be number 1 for a very long time. Mr. Dancing feet himself. When it comes to my favorite to win, anybody but McIlroy. Scheffler has to be #1 on the betting sites right now, so I'll go with him as day 1 favorite.
oh ya i think you are right. either way, dude gets arrested, maintains composure throughout the entire process with the officers, stretches in the jail cell and shows back up to the course and still makes a cut. I mean the body cam footage of the officer even admits he didnt realize he was number 1 in the world and that he was way too calm to be number 1 in the world. None of the "you know who I am", empty threats to officers, or anything. Just stayed calm, stayed respectful and went through the legal process as anyone else would have to do in that situation, but did it better than most. I mean.... this tournament comes once a year, the purse is 5 million, and your chances might be ruined from a miscommunication that he wasnt even guilty of committing as charges were dropped within 2 weeks. Yet, even with all of that, he never became disrespectful towards any of the officers. If I had an opportunity at 5 million, and i felt I was losing that opportunity over a miscommunication, not sure I could stay as calm as he did.I think it was the PGA when he was jailed, but yes he seems like a good person.
Whos watching the masters this weekend? I picked the game back up last year after putting them away at 18 years old, with multiple scholarship offers, knowing I wanted to chase the adventures outdoors (mostly waterfowl) vs being on a golf course through my 20's. I never intended to ever pick them back up until some smooth talkers talked about how good they were in the hospital I work for. My inner child and competitor couldnt bear to listen to them, with many errors in their talking, I kind of knew they were probably not as good as they said they were. But I dug the old clubs up, and played all last summer. Surprisingly, was having some back pain, and it solved all of that. I was shocked, and basically said I would continue to play in off season to just keep the back twisting and limber... apparently that was the issue. By the time I put them away for the waterfowl season, i was back shooting in the high 70's for my scores. Made a few changes for this off season, will play my first round in a week or so as I found my contact again (went ahead and invest in new technology) and learned to play these clubs. Wondering if there are only boat builders here or if others smack the little white devil around a little and curse on the green grass. If no replies, delete the thread lol.
Funny guy... shocked it wasnt renamed when the redskins were renamed.I play a game others call golf. Not sure this is what I'm doing but I do enjoy the social atmosphere of it.
You know why they call it golf? It was the only four letter word left.

No you misread my quote.... i stated by the time I put them back up for waterfowl season, I was shooting high 70's. My final two rounds before getting boats and decoys ready, last fall, was 78/79. When I first dug them out of storage, I made myself go to the range for 2 months and find my swing again. It was really bad, but I knew how good I once was and could find it again with a little "back to the basics" mindset. I truthfully didnt think I would ever play again. Even when I went to the range the first time, after all those years, I had a whole conversation asking what I was doing walking out here to hit balls. Questioning if I was really letting some shit talkers at my work get under my skin that bad that im going to pick this game back up. But when I woke up the next day and my back pain was almost gone, I even told my significant other, I might just hit balls to keep my back limber and loose. Of course she rolled her eyes and even said "here we go... just what you need, another damn hobby." She wasnt wrong! And for 2 months, I maintained that story, until I could hit all my targets on demand on the golf range by going up from my lob wedge to driver and back down without a single mishit. Once i get to that point, I really had to go try and play. First time out, I shot an 84. lived in low 80's most the summer and then finally broke back through on the final 2 rounds of the summer before putting them away for waterfowl season. But I shot an 84 after months of range work. I knew when I could get around a course and I also knew when I just wasnt ready. I think many that play, just go and have fun, which is fine, but the other side to that to that token is when you played competitively and shot a 67 in a sanctioned tournament, you know what good ball striking and playing looks like, even when practicing on the range. I told myself, I wouldnt step foot on a tee box until i felt that good again. Even when I thought I did, I shot an 84.... DOH!Bill,
That is disgusting.
You gave it up for X number of years, picked it back up and began to shoot in the high 70's.
Disgusting.
May your drives sail into the next fairway and your putts lip out.
Double bogie duffer here.
