This morning's teal hunt

Beautiful area but from past reading reptiles and duck hunting spook me a bit. Most we have to worry about here on the tide lands is a clam shell or crab.

This time of the year is prime time for western diamondbacks. Habi is vaccinated as are the rest of our dogs. The snakes come with the territory and one just needs to be careful. Last time I posted a pic of a snake, Fred asked if I wouldn't do that for a while, so I won't post one.

Nice shooting Al, and the dog looks great. It is pretty rare to get bluewings in NJ, by the time the season opens here they are mostly gone. I haven't shot one in about 25 years.

Thanks so much, Greg. I hope you can break that 25 year jinx! Maybe it will be this year.

Al, I really enjoy all of your reports and awesome pics - keep them coming......... my wife and I took a quick vacation to NM many years ago to find snow during the winter and I really loved the scenery - if you keep up these posts I am going to show up on your door step one day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John, when that time comes, let me know, because I'll send you directions on how to get to our home. Glad you enjoyed the thread. I love the Land of Enchantment.

Al,

Those photos makes me wish we had an early season teal hunt. Teal are my favorite bird to hunt and eat.

Last season opener we had a group of blue wings land out about 50 or 60 yards. My hunting partner for the day decided to take the long shot as they spooked. He counted out one, two, and three. I looked out and there were three down teal. Longest shoot I've ever seen, and a triple to boot.

Tight Lines ... Fred

I, too, enjoy trying to shoot teal, Fred. They are one very enjoyable specie of waterfowl. Sure makes a guy appreciate the fact that we have an early season on them. Good luck with your season this year.

Good Job Habi!

(And nice shooting AL!)

Well, thank you, Carl. Really all the credit should go to the young lady that sits by my side each morning. Habi makes the difference in all of my duck hunting days.

As for the shooting, sometimes I just get lucky. This morning I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

You are looking greener there then we are here now. That water looks great for teal... and everything else.
Habi reminds me of my nephew's brittany last weekend. We sat next to a pile of dirt pushed up and out of the way for the gravel pit. She was a black brit for a while but a little walk through the grass and she was clean. Amazing how dogs can do that.

Tim

I know what you mean by a dog that seems to change color when hunting in the muck. This morning I took the garden hose and was surprised at how she just stood there so patiently to allow me to clean her up.
Down here everyone is talking about the color "green". It seems to be a decade since ranchers have seen any grass growing.
Good luck with your upcoming duck season, Tim.

Other than the flash flooding, really nice to see y'all getting rain. Looks like things green up quick when it comes.
